I like his music a lot, so I might be biased, but I think he had a ton more potential. His funk period where he tried to be more commercial came from desperation for money. He may have been satisfied creatively with Lorca/Starsailor, but he was near broke. He wanted to start some sexual funk thing that would attract controversy and possibly sales. Of course those albums were not very good, and even the critics weren't praising him any more. His drug habits started increasing due to the lack of success. He was talking about making another folk rock album, but died before anything came of it. He had a powerful voice, so he even if he just did standard folk rock covers, it would have been pretty good. I think he could have made some more great stuff, although I doubt it would have been comparable to his earlier work.

Because Andrew Wood was a living legend in the Seattle scene who a lot of the bands (that became successful later) knew pretty well and admired.
