Do any other straight men here relate more emotionally to "gay" music than they do straight?

Xiu Xiu and the Smiths both effect me in a specifically relatable "gay" way, despite the fact that I'm not technically a homosexual

>>

What would you classify as "gay" music?

How would you describe that "gay" way in which Xiu Xiu and the Smiths both "effect" you?

This is a trick question. Despite whatever cultural biases you may have for whatever reason, and contrary to popular belief, ((music)) in and of itself does not boast of the same societal rules you and I boast of. That is, music is not a person, it's not an entity, it cannot be classified as "gay" or "hetero", that is because music does not have any sexual preferences, music cannot "homosexual" because there is a metaphysical impossibility for it to "be attracted to members of the same gender", because music does not have a gender, music is a construct, an idea, a name we give to sounds and harmonies. What you're asking is absolutely retarded and I'm surprised I actually have to explain this to you.

If, for whatever reason, you think the music you enjoy is "gay" or that it affects you in a "gay way", I think that's just you wanting to suck cock and not wanting to accept it. Go be gay somewhere else.

What would you classify as "gay" porn?

How would you describe that "gay" way in which Brent Everett and the Jessie Colter both "effect" you?

The Smiths aren't gay music.
>>
i've found a similar thing with gay authors like Proust, Yukio Mishima, and Péter Nádas.

i think it's because gay men possess certain effeminate traits which are useful for art (emotional sensitivity, more socially aware, better language capabilities), while still retaining the male social conditioning to compete, to find a niche and to tower above all others within through the force of your achievements. without this latter mindset, a person may desire to be an artist, but they're unlikely to actually sink the thousands of hours required to attain technical proficiency and actualize their potential; it is this difference IMO that leads to gay men producing effeminate art that could also theoretically be made by women but usually isn't (ignoring rare exceptions like Virginia Woolf).

in addition to that, i think gay artists also benefit from being "different". their somewhat unique social experience and the greater amount of psychological conflict contained therein can serve as material for their work.
>>
>>71610527
Samefag here.
The bands and artists i usally relate too on a emotional level are a lot of the times gay, artists like sufjan stevens, xiu xiu, velvet underground.
>>
>>71613180
Yukio Mishima was pretty masculine though.
>>
I used to identify with both bands back in high school when I was first recognizing my sexuality, but seven years later and I find both of those bands annoying as shit (although I think that has more to do with Morrissey's whiny, narcissistic lyrics and Jaime's grating vocals than anything else).

I will say that I do enjoy a lot of music associated with gay people (darkwave, non-Top 40 synthpop, late 80s & early 90s EDM), although a lot of the more overtly gay stuff (i.e. Pet Shop Boys) tends to get on my nerves.
>>
>>71613180
>Yukio Mishima

Forbidden Colours is one of the best novels I've read in the past few years. I think its also true that homosexuality takes on an appealing aesthetic sensibility in itself in works of art like this.

I'd disagree that it's an effeminacy though. As another anon pointed out, Mishima was pretty macho. I think gay art has a style of its own. The heterosexual relationships in Mishima are as tantalising as the homosexual ones. I think its a specifically gay, or "queer", way of presenting them which resonates with me.

Anyway, this is a topic for /lit/
>>
I'm gay and I emotionally relate to a ton of "straight" music. Depends on the artist. I don't relate to Frank Ocean, but American Football hits home.

It's raining men and you might be gay or not, you spin me right round and we'll find out.
