Whats so special in jazz genre?
I think its overrated repetitive bullshit.
Better listen to this for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQHto60cDFA
Why do people think jazz is top tier and patrician genre?
When will people realize jazz is no more than music that is played in elevators.

I seriously dont get it , is it about technicality ? Is it about being pretentious for liking it? Because I cant see it, its really annoying non-melodic shit
Pro-tip: if you don't think this is God tier music you need to go back to /b/.

>is it about technicality
technicality
innovation
emotion
spirituality
jazz was hugely influential on rock throughout the 60s and 70s, most innovations in rock during those times can be traced back to jazz
people who don't understand this just haven't heard much jazz and are too lazy to listen to even the most well-known great albums in the genre

It's actually much LESS repetitive than most genres. In fact, that's the thing that usually turns off new jazz listeners. In most jazz there is a repetitive chorus form (often 32 bars) that repeats but with the soloists improvising different melodic ideas each pass through the chorus. Not only that, but the rhythm section's accompaniment will usually be quite varied from chorus to chorus because they react to what the soloist is doing.
The enjoyment of jazz comes from close and often repeated listening, and being able to pick up on the more subtle aspects of the solos.

I find more enjoyment in the spontaneity, actually. That unexpected lick, or chord. It's why I love hearing Jazz live - it will never be the same again.

well that's why I say "often" repeated listening. Plus I think the more repeated listening you do to your favorite recordings to pick up on the subtleties, the more you are able to notice those kinds of things on a first listen.

What horrible excuse for jazz are you listening to? Jazz is all about melody, and improvising around and through it. Especially Jazz from Armstrong's era.

As long as we're posting jazz solos that are super melodic, have some Lester Young, one of the most melodic and lyrical players ever.

Best post.
Most people who complain about jazz haven't heard much, or much music in general.
The more difficult stuff is better digested by musicians, but as someone who was raised on jazz and raised a musician, its spiritually invoking.
