The third category is newer metalcore, often called melodeath (the original more melodic bands that actually played death metal were rarely called melodeath. This genre owes a lot to metal, is usually melodic, and tends to have surface elements of death metal. For this reason, many call it melodic death metal. However, underneath the timbre of the instruments, and some of the common smaller scale patterns, a different spirit is revealed. The songs do not progress narratively. The way that past riffs affect the upcoming riffs is related to death metal but only in the vaguely verse chorus verse fashion of simpler speed metal. The romantic themes described, and emotional tones expressed, are different. The following piece by a later, falling apart At The Gates has some some of these elements, providing a sample of what was to come:

I thought I grew out of folk metal a long time ago, but I've recently come back to Moonsorrow, and shit on me all you want but I think they might have to be one of my favorite bands. I've been listening to their discog and despite their long songs, I am never bored and constantly find certain parts in these songs where I must repeat because its so fucking good, and they don't spoil you with these hooks either hence why I repeat some parts. Granted, I prefer their later black metal style albums. V:Havitetty is my favorite of theirs.

When I hear folk metal I think korpiklaani, einherjer, turisas, ect. Temnozor is more black metal with the pagan folk sound, their early stuff was along the lines of moon sorrow meets moonblood, their newer stuff folked out slightly the same way newer m8l8th became more anthemy

But Crystal Logic is incontestably one of the greatest power metal albums of all time. You can hate every other album of theirs, but don't say that everything they have done suck because that is objectively false.
>>71547587
I don't really care if you like Burzum or not, I just don't hear any similarities between the two. Just because they both are somewhat slow doesn't make them similar. Following that logic, Candlemass should also be similar to Burzum.
>>71547715

>Teleport are a speed metal band attempting to worship Timeghoul in rock structured songs. I guess Teleport hope to be Vektor or eventually another awful band on Dark Descent Records but Ascendance actually has riffs. Teleport has potential if they leave the speed metal song forms behind, discard all the stolen Dave Mustaine riffs, and listen to Rust in Peace, The Red in the Sky is Ours, Pure Holocaust, and Onward to Golgotha until they fully understand the peaks of metal and proper riff-based, melodic narrative song structures. Teleport need something better than “Hey we sound like crap people actually buy as they’re adult babies!” to become artistically worthy.

Half the songs on Crystal Logic barely even have riffs, just very basic power chord progressions and super repetitive vocal melodies. Open the Gates has some really cool stuff like The Fires of Mars, even if there's still a lot filler.

>it seems the same albums and bands are mentioned here every time, which might mean the genre is pretty much dead in terms of innovation.

Personally I thought Hell is Empty, and All the Devils are Here was better
Especially The Final Absolution and Castigation from same
Manilla Road – The Deluge (1986)
Generic speed metal with vocals performed by a someone on beta blockers at a bar & grill karaoke night. All of the riffs and leads are generic heavy metal ones used to create the type of lame fantasy world that would be present in mediocre paperbacks such as Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series. This is when Manilla Road feel like playing heavy metal; interspersed throughout the album are songs with glam metal power ballad parts of the type played by commercialized speed metal acts Metal Church and Testament. These are there solely to appeal who watched Led Zeppelin’s awful The Song Remains the Same film high, found it mind-blowing, and developed an interest in historical fencing. Otherwise influences from Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Judas Priest, and Metallica are used to construct rocking sing-alongs for teenagers’ Advanced Dungeons & Dragons games. Many riffs and vocal melodies are recycled from the prior album Crystal Logic. The Deluge is a record for overweight, fedora-wearing renaissance fairy neckbeards wearing leather corsets over Seinfeld pirate shirts to drink mead to while watching drunk Rip Torn fall over himself in Beastmaster.

t. nu-fag
>>71553054
Pretty good but technically it should be 2014 for the beginning of cuck which I think is also historically accurate
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33mw9zBD0BM
>>71553146
I was leaning towards that but I could've sworn I started seeing cuck around the end of 2013, it was definitely a couple months into 2014 when it took off completely and got spammed everywhere though.
I'm glad it has finally been replaced, I never thought cuck would stop being used. nu-male is funnier anyway.
How long will it be until crossover is invaded by nu-males?
>>71553183
crossover has always been nu-male
How does everyone like the new Lock Up that came out today? I'm just finishing it now but it seems like they saved the best song for last.
>>71553196
I can't really see nu-males appreciating crossover. It's music for swaggering, moshing, riffing, kicking people's faces. It's big, violent and unrepentantly masculine. It has bands named shit like Spinebreaker and Power Trip.
It's the kind of shit that would drive the average meloprogemeal babby up the wall, so I dont' know how it's nu-male.
>>71553258
nu-male: crossover
non-nu-male: slam, grindcore or sludgewave
>>71550899

I appreciate the meme and all, but you can drop it. I'm not a retarded nu-male that gets triggered at being called a nu-male. I'm a slightly less retarded nu-male looking for non-nu-male music.
