So where do you go from here? (Beyond their own material)
The only other album I can come up with that has a real comparable sound is Live at the Witch Trials.
The Smiths, the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, &c; the anger is missing there? Or maybe it's something else?
Without getting too bogged down in boo hoo bullshit, is there anything you'd recommend?
>So where do you go from here?
The fidelity needs to go lower
LOWER DAMMIT

>The only other album I can come up with that has a real comparable sound is Live at the Witch Trials
Bullshit mate
Give this a go:

Houdini -Melvins
>>71544981
movement - new order
it's basically a joy division record
>>71545030
That shit's right in line; thank you
>>71545016
Nah, bruh.
>>71545152
Thought so. A certain ratio were on the same label at the same time as well
Bands that sound kinda similar:
Lowlife

The Chameleons

For Against

Thank you!
>>71545415
No problem.
I actually forgot The Sound
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PU5bhXn4UQ
and My dad is dead
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0v94EMaY8Y
>>71544981
Interpol, Editors?
they were heavily criticized for sounding like JD
I would also suggest The National, not the same sound but I always put it in the same category as bands above for some reason
>>71545628
rather grim joke mate :D
>>71545101
See, I dunno. That's more the Cure end of the spectrum, I guess
>>71545996
what how
The Chameleons are good, pic related.
Also if you haven't listened to An Ideal for Living then you really should, much more raw and gritty
>>71546051
oops here ya go
>>71546011
More than anything the musical end. Vocals are on point, I'll give ya that, but the sound of the whole thing, like I said on a spectrum, we're getting away from what I'm looking for.
Still enjoyed it, though.
>>71546051
Honestly prefer this more than I do OP
>>71546109
i mean joy division was their own thing so nobody's going to straight up gank their sound but movement in my opinion is the closest thing by another band
mostly because it isn't even another band, it's just minus one
>>71546184
Honestly don't mind a ganking of sound if I like the sound.
>>71546079
This is GOAT OP
Death in June. This album and their first one also.
Those other bands you listed like The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen don't sound like Joy Division at all and took post-punk in a poppy bullshit direction if you ask me.
Listen to Public Image Ltd's first two releases 'First Issue' and 'Metal Box'
>>71546220
Just google "Martin Hannett Discography" He engineer behind the sound you are thinking of.
>>71546220
i wish there was more joy division material too but i don't think i'd want it from some jd-worship band
just my thoughts
my fav

>>71546264
I mean, obviously everything within reason.
If I hear a 'ripoff' knowing they're a rip, though, doesn't generally diminish my joy in listening to it. At least on a surface level.
>>71546264
Ian said he didnt want to be a musician who made songs about dying young
He actually did it the absolute mad man!
>>71546340
didnt he also say his lyrics mean whatever you want them to mean
what if i want them to be about dying young
>>71546431
Ian said he wasn't going to be one of those musicians who sang about dying young and then lived to be thirty, and clearly he meant it because he killed himself at 23.
>what if i want them to be about dying young
o i am laffin, music is an art form that is meant to be interpreted, you should absolutely come to your own conclusions on what message he/she is trying to communicate
>>71545008
this
>>71546666
RIP Ian
>>71546666
i don't know if this is supposed to be demeaning or not but if it is suck my dick
>>71546750
not my intention at all friend :^). all i meat is that ian's lyrics and the meaning behind them are completely unique to himself, so the closest you can get for understanding the meaning of a song is at best a guess
>>71545193
Here I am thinking now one has ever heard of Lowlife and The Sound
