Which Scaruffi review caused you to discard his opinions?

http://www.scaruffi.com/music/groups.html
>>
About three or four paragraphs into THE FACT THAT
>>
OP here. Don't forget his favorite rock album of all time is Trout Mask Replica and its only a 9.5.

He takes the "I don't like music" meme to a new level. Also don't forget he gave Pablo Honey the same score as Kid A, a 6.5.

>What made disregard him
>>
>>71513735
I never regarded his opinions in the first place.

Also he has 0 (Zer0) Herbie Hancock reviews on his website.

That's a no-no.

>Nonetheless the roots of these tracks are still in country and folk music. There is an instrinsic roughness in the way they are played (the timbres, the tempos, the drumming), in opposition to the crisp choice of sounds that characterizes today's avantgarde composer, that sets them firmly in the "popular" field. They exhale rock and roll, blues-rock, folk-rock, acid-rock, punk-rock, new wave, and so forth: they embody the history of rock music, although they project it on a different screen. Warren Ellis and Mick Turner rank among the most accomplished composers (if not performers) of their age.

>>
>>71513735
It's actually his lack of any good reviews/writings on jazz or classical music that caused me to discard his opinion.
>>
>>71513861
The thread isn't "Which Scaruffi review triggered you and made you cry"

>>71513907
Very understandable
>>
>>71513907
Why doesn't he score them?
>>
>reading reviews
>>
>>71513907
this
for someone who thinks classical and jazz are superior to rock, he does talk about rock quite a lot more
>>
>>71514006
He knows what posts get him the most views. It's likely that he considers that element.
>>
>>71514024
does he get any money from views though?
>>
>>71514047
I have adblock but some pages say that you can buy ad space.
>>
Not even memeing, but his Beatles rant is seriously petty, and I don't even really like the Beatles that much
>>
>>71514006
he said somewhere in an interview that he writes mostly about rock since the status quo of rock criticism sucks, whereas there has been a great history of classical and jazz criticism
>>
>>71514101
What do you mean by petty?
>>
http://scaruffi.com/quotes.html

this page is a cringefest
>>
>>71514120
>>
>>71514117
Did he list any sources of jazz or classical criticism?
>>
>>71513735
I respect his sheer diligence in the amount of music he's listened to, therefore I weigh his taste at a heavier level. It's even more impressive that he has time for all of it considering he also reviews movies, writes encyclopedic-style articles about tons of things, and also goes on trips where he documents everything he does.
>>
>>71513939
Curious about this as well.
>>
>>71514137
>"God is a geek who made a lot of money with his invention and now only occasionally cares about the business plan"
>"We never fully wake up."
>"The universe is a pointless distraction"
>"Life was obviously invented by a dead person"
>"Only when the tide recedes do you find out who's been swimming naked" (Warren Buffet). "We're all naked" (piero)
>"The next time you say forever think of never"
d a m n . . .
>"Philosophy is the art of saying something incredibly stupid and making it sound incredibly intelligent."
this one is incredibly ironic
>>
>>71513735
His opinions regarding the Tropicalia Movement, especially coming from a guy that shit so much on bands for being """conservative""".
>>
>>71514246
>His opinions regarding the Tropicalia Movement
what would that be? I can't find anything in his site
>>
>>71513735
On some level I hate him for being so self-absorbed, but at the same time I legitimately think he is autistic. The massive walls of text and analysis, the selectivity, it's all there. Writing on "The fact that..." that this review has won awards for "Best Taste"? I mean c'mon.
>>
http://www.scaruffi.com/vol8/altarofp.html

Never really cared about his opinion but this """""review"""""" made me really hate him.
>>
http://www.scaruffi.com/politics/suicides.html
>>
>>71514341
Are they any good?
>>
>>71514350
that's a strange selection
>>
actually i never considered him a relevant critic
this thread made me hate him
>>
>>71514117
kek. That's bullshit and we all know it.
>>
>>71514377
Yes especially considering some can hardly be considered suicide like Freud (basically had his doctor euthanize him late in his terminal cancer)
>>
This obsession you all have with hating this guy is more autistic than his reviews.

>>71513795
>he gave Pablo Honey the same score as Kid A, a 6.5.

Well Radiohead is trash so who cares?
>>
>>71513735
None of them because I've never read his reviews or even been on his website before.
>>
>>71514604
Then why are you in this thread? For yous? Enjoy it you whore.
>>
A lot of the albums that he rates highly just confuse me, but some of them are pretty enjoyable. I'm glad I gave him the time of day.
>>
>>71513735

none, Scaruffi is always right.

He said in an interview that he wrote about rock music because, when he started writing about it (in the 80s), there was very little written about alternative (as in, not pop music), so he was filling a niche. There was already a huge deal written about jazz and classical, by people he thought much more knowledgeable and talented than him, so he didn't waste his time and effort writing something useless.

Also, since I haven't shilled it in a while, you can listen to my interview with him from a few months ago if you want. radio.adelaide.edu.au/interview-with-Piero-Scaruffi

>I don't like the way the world is moving toward a more selfish, self-centered way of life
lmfao
>>
>>71514671
>In those days it was rare to see critics even rate albums
Is he senile?
>>
>>71514222
>(piero)

fucking kek
>>
The fact that he reviewed the unreleased Boards of Canada albums
>>
When he only gave Down Colorful Hill a 9 instead of the 10 it deserves.
>>
>>71513735
He's hilarious though.
>>
>>71514973
Woah! Why do you think that in particular is worth a 10?
>>
>>71515060
The ONLY reason Scruffy didn't give it a 10 is because he's a filthy wop who couldn't fully grasp the lyrics and how they seemlessly intertwine with the instrumentation.
>>
his politics page
>>
>>71515100
Take it easy Kozelek
>>
>>71514137
He's so fucking wrong about politics, too. Just have a look at what he thinks communism is and have a giggle.
>>
>>71515375
His opinions on everything are given consideration because of his knowledge in his field relative to the people that use his website.
>>
>>71514671
Are you ever gonna interview Hanging Dong for the memes?
>>
he gave 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' a 5/10 when it's at least an 8 or higher.
>>
Any critic or publication which rates albums can be safely disregarded

Albums are not comparable the way electrical products or cars are
>>
we should start a gofundme to raise money to buy adspace on his site, advertising waifu pillows or something

who's in

>Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 1985-92 (1992) and Selected Ambient Works Volume II (1994) were experiments in ambient house and abstract electronic/concrete composition. They were childish and antiquated (and perhaps a joke on music critics), but they increased James' reputation, making him the first star of ambient house.

>>71517358
>who are The KLF
>who are The Orb
>>
>>71517367
klf's album is 8/10, orb same, aphex twin is in a completely different galaxy
>>
>>71517393
They were both before and bigger than Aohex
I agree he was better
>>
>>71516443
No, I interviewed 2 of the guys from the death of pablo project though

And I'm currently waiting to hear back from Melody Prochet (from Melody's Echo Chamber), and a Greek indie label too
>>
has he given anything a 10?
>>
>>71517523
No.
People have suggested it would be Trout Mask Replica though.

His tangerine dream review.
