Imo it could also have to do with how heavily instrumental/vocally alietoric her music tends to be (the same reason why Lisa Gerard/Dead Can Dance also tend to get overlooked.) Imo both these women have great voices, but they both tend to relegate themselves to being just another part of the ambiance of their music.

Which I actually love, btw. It's just that I (at least) tend not to think of them as independent vocalists because of it. Fwiw Grimes would be in exactly the same boat if not for the fact that she has gone out of her way to feature her own voice as an independent thing on her most recent releases.
