Why are you so prejudiced against "jam bands" /mu/? You're completely ignoring an entire scene of great, original music, shows that you can see today whose production blows most other artists out the water. For those that say there's no musical merit to it, how can you say Phish's "You Enjoy Myself" or The Disco Biscuit's "Magellan" are un inspired shit? Have you even given it a try? Or is it that since you have to get most out of the band by seeing them live, that automatically excludes most denizens of /mu/?

i like jam bands kinda

I'm don't want to count myself as a part of this shitty board, but I like written out compositions.

Phish sounds like extraordinarily pretentious quirky hipster shit just from their Wikipedia page, so that alone has completely turned me off from anything remotely similar to them.

>has to find out about Phish by reading their Wikipedia page
>thinks his opinion on music matters

Where did it say that I found out about Phish by reading their Wikipedia article?
I clearly knew ABOUT them before I read the article, or else I wouldn't have searched for the article in the first place.

Phish is the best. Rock on!

I mean I was a member of the Phamily 2009-2011 and well to make a long story short it just got boring. I can't ego death any more so every single David Bowie sounds like the same jam. I'll always respect jam bands for thier sheer ability to foster a scene out of nearly nothing, but I'll never consider it sophisticated, or civilized.

I'm against music in general but jam bands are most discriminate by me

I wouldn't say I was prejudiced against "jam bands", I just prefer written compositions as another anon has already said.

I do enjoy a fair bit of jazz improvisation, but I find that more appealing than the improvisation in jam bands, which is usually just pentatonic noodling. That gets boring really quickly. I find there are few artists who can do many interesting things with the voice that kind of soloing provides them.

I have given it a try. I used to be very into the allman brothers band and the grateful dead.

As far as the live show dig goes, I'm always going to gigs. I think I'd much prefer to be in a smaller quiet venue where I can have a drink and a quiet chat in between sets/songs than a packed out venue full of screaming moronic hippies and flashy lights.

Maybe the question you should be asking yourself is why does it matter so much to you whether other people like the music you like.

There is no more real and sincere musical experience that watching a group of people legitimately creating something great on the spot. Not some contrived shit where everyone gets their turn at some self-indulgent solo over a meticulously rehearsed backing, but real true unified creative expression.

Unfortunately this doesn't really translate so well onto recordings, and since the majority of /mu/ are autists who never leave their house and don't understand human interaction they can't really get down on that kind of thing.
>>
>WHY DONT YOU KIDS LIKE THE RAWK MUSIC
>HES MAKING ALL THAT DAMN MUSIC UP ON THE SPOT YA KNOW
>>
Hiding your lack of song writing ability behind improvisation doesn't really impress me. Tried listening to some HoBoLeMa the other day which is chock full of badass goat tier musicians (Holdsworth, Bozzio, Levin and Pat Mastellotto) who improvize their whole performances and I thought they sucked too.

It's not hiding a lack of songwriting ability, its just a different skill. Some are good at one, some are good at both.
