the deftones arent a bad band, white pony is great album, they are only burdened with having come up alongside the rise of nu metal
and anyways, its been long enough for a revival, i expect by 2020 there will be an emo pop revival

deftones are certainly good but i always struggled to class them as nu-metal at all, they really don't fit with the genre stylistically at all besides their shitty first album.

the only albums that i wouldn't struggle to classify as nu metal but still think are legitimately good are SOAD's first 2
