Is there a similar chart like this, except for the 80's?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Is there a similar chart like this, except for the 80's? Already looked at the wiki and there's no 80's chart which is a shame

No but we can MAKE one.

I shall offer my services.

Yeah this is a good idea. We should get the obvious artists out of the way, like Depeche Mode, Pixies, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, and the Cure.

Am I the only one who thinks charts like these are stupid?

It's fine to give recommendations, but these are just random suggestions from Anons who happen to be in this thread at this time, and then there's the OP who may or may not include or ignore albums based on personal tastes. And then this gets sorted into the wiki and treated like an authoritative judgement.
>>
>>71406951

It is an essential 80's album though, unfortunately.

You legitimately had a meltdown about how you shouldnt have to include pac because biggie was better and you ignored posts that requested him.
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/S70705772#p70706060
You intentionally refused to add him because you didn't like him up until you caved in because people were starting to not like you, and you have some strong disposition against people not liking you for some autistic reason.
>>
>>71407515
Where EXACTLY did I have a meltdown? I was relatively pretty polite about it. Most of the "anger" was sarcastic AND the it ended up being added so I'm not sure why you're complaining.

Also having a bias towards ONE artist isn't that bad especially when I ended up adding artists I hate to the other charts.

1980s were kinda a low point for jazz but if the chart is interested in representing what was going on:
Anthony Davis - Lady of the Mirrors
Bill Evans - You Must Believe in Spring
Wynton Marsalis - Standard Time
Cecil Taylor - One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye
Pat Metheny - American Garage
The Chick Corea Elektric Band - s/t
Are all good albums and vaguely represent a lot of the major musical streams in jazz during the 80s.

Philip Glass - Glassworks (1982)
Madonna - Madonna (1983)
Cardiacs - A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window (1988)
The Necks - Sex (1989)

Coleman & Metheny's "Song X" is an essential 80's jazz record, but I see that 1986 is already full, so oh well
>>
Hellhammer - Satanic Rites (1983)
>>
I suggest removing Some Great Reward (1985) with Black Celebration (1986) or Music for The Masses(1987).
I think those two are do a better job at representing their particular sound or maybe it's me that I find them to be better albums.

Stryper - Soldiers Under Command (1985)
Possessed - Seven Churches (1985)

>>71409828
It is fantastic and a career highlight for Metheny in particular. A bit of an odd record though. I was thinking the Taylor and Davis records were a little more representative of what was going on in free/avant-garde jazz and that Chick's Elektric band represented the attempts of jazz to include 80s electronic music and production aesthetic. Most of that was being done in a more poppy/fusiony setting, which is a shame really cause Song X is a brilliant example of how well that stuff can work in free music.

Didn't realise these were being done by year though. Not arsed looking up when those albums were done...they probs weren't gonna be included anyway.

How about a chart from someone that listened to the shit than someone pulling names from reccs?
>>
>>71413703
But that one doesn't have Ween 2: Axis Bold as Boognish on it, does it?
>>
>>71411803
Here you go newb.

A fine addition to my collection.
>>
>>71414845
Impressive. Very nice
>>
>>71414887
Glad you like it, man. Thanks.

(I might organize it in chronological order but I'm not certain yet)
>>
>>71414845
dude you got rid of axis...
0/10 that was the best album on that chart.
>>
>>71414845
dude why did you get rid of axis bold as boognish?
>>
>>71415003
(I worded the first one wrong).

It seemed more like a bootleg/demotape than it did a straightforward album.

That and someone said 'it's in the wrong year'...

...when it wasn't.
>>
>>71415050
well it was an actual album, sort of, but it was only released on a tape, because it was made by high ass teenagers and that's all they could afford.
>>
>>71415093
Give me a minute to save it to my topsters and I'll switch it out.
>>
>>71414845
I want to give you a hug, anon. This'll make my commutes to and from work more bearable.
>>
>>71415656
Thanks. Gonna save the 70s from OP and probably make an updated one for that decade too.

(I REALLY look forward to that one)
>>
>>71414845
You're missing The Feelies - Crazy Rhythm for 1980. Take out Ambient 2 bruh
>>
>>71415889
yeah, op, and hurry up with axis bold as boognish too.
>>
>>71415889
If you can get someone else to agree with you on this I'll swap it. Eno's fucking loved to death on here so I feel like people would be pissed if I swapped him.
>>
>>71415924
Fair enough, I just feel like putting an Eno for the sake of it doesn't make sense. He has better works.
>>
>>71415914
Done.
>>
>>71416071
ayy its perfect. 100% best chart
>>
>>71416012
guy who suggested Eno here
I put down both Ambient 2 and My Life in the Bush of Ghosts on the off chance that both could be included
desu I kinda wanted MLitBoG more but w/e

>>

>>71416537
ok is now the time to suggest you put genre labels on each album or do you just want to kys from having topsters die on you and are too exhausted to MS paint that shit in
>>
>>71416604
>do you just want to kys from having topsters die on you and are too exhausted to MS paint that shit in

... :(

Ok fine I can put some genre lables on.
Should I just go it for each individual album?
>>
>>71416628
YEah I think just wikipedia'ing the album or RYM'ming it works fine

I understand if you don't want to devote another 100000 hours on the chart though
>>
>>71416357
now make one for the 2000s.

B: 3 of the artists you said are already on the final.

I know not everyone likes them, but the absence of ACDC's Back in Black seems like an oversight.
