On second thought Claypool is somewhat acceptable but in what world is Lee better than Squire? Like beyond a couple Rush songs his bass playing is boring as hell.
>>71386742
Dadrock haters will disagree but he really is great. He has his own style and knows how to work within a song, he doesn't wank or play over the guitar like Les Claypool does (imo). He realizes what a bass player's role is.

his playing on some songs are pretty boring, granted, but in terms of overall skill at playing his instrument i put him there

Squire is one of the greats, maybe not THE best, I just want to have a great bass guitarists thread though

Lol. Geddy Lee took what he was doing on the early Yes albums and improved upon everything 10x
>>71386890
This. I certainly wouldn't call Flea the best but he's really great and like you said, he doesn't wank or try to steal the show, even though he easily can. I guess he did a bit of that on the early RHCP albums, but he outgrew it pretty quickly. And even then, he's good enough to be the center of attention in a song at times.

Dunno about better but I've been loving this guy's playing recently

Flea is honestly crap
When I first started playing bass when I was 15 I though he was God. But he's not good at all.

Frusciante was the only notable musician in RHCP
