What's the difference between alternative and indie?
they're both bullshit umbrella terms used to describe a lot of the modern music you can hear on the radio

Indie is how music is corporatley managed like say the beggars group and is therefor Indie becuase they are independent from huge commercial labels. Alternative is a stylistic genre
If an indie band gets signed by a major label, does the term "indie" not apply to them anymore (assuming indie = independent)?

A lot of shit on major labels gets categorized as "indie" nowadays though.
First post got it right, though.

it shouldn't, but that doesn't stop people from calling bands on major labels "indie"
now indie pretty much just means they have a slightly quirky or rebellious image and their fans believe they're different form everyone else
alternative is mainstream rock
indie is underground rock
