Give some music you pickles.
>>
The meanginful and less preachy, bloated stuff is usually in a more meta sense rather than being presented explicitly in the content, as in most of modern to contemporary classical music...
>vidya
oh dropped
>>
Wagner - Tristan, Lohengrin, Parsifal, Der Ring
Schoenberg - Everything starting with Pierrot Lunaire
Stockhausen - everything
Feldman - everything

Could go on you piece of shit

Go on.

How about give some examples instead of being such a autist because I mentioned Vidya in the same sentence as philosophical.
>>

I think that black sabbath has pretty deep lyrics about life in vol4, sabbath bloody sabbath and sabotage. Obviously the music is the trulu imortant thing but I enjoy a lot how a song like wheels of confusion has all that first part with the questioning about innocence and shit and then there's the cool buildup with the angry part and then it chills out again when the narrator takes a more nihilistic and cold approach to life, giving the riff a whole new spin imho. Geezer was a great lyricist

Finally. A smart post in my thread.

You have terrible taste I have to say
>>
Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartets (all of them)
John Coltrane - Olatunji (or Ascension if Olatunji is too low fidelity)
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Shahen Shah
Deathspell Omega's "trilogy" (SMRC, Fas, and Paracletus)
Swans - Soundtracks For The Blind

Said it like such a nu male.

Cringe
>>
>>71300861

Music isn't supposed to deal with deep philosophical meanings/questions, and because of the limitations of its medium it will literally never be able to deal with them anywhere near as extensively or with as much depth as film, literature, vidya, etc.

prove me wrong.

name a single album or piece that has the depth of a book like Gravity's Rainbow. It's just not possible.
>>
>>71301407
name a single book that gets your body moving like jon hopkins or has the trance-like effects of music for 18 musicians. they're different mediums. they are not the same. shut the fuck up
>>
>>71301407
The entirety of a work like The Art Of Fugue or really anything in the realm of New Complexity art music is easily far more complex than Gravity's Rainbow. Gravity's Rainbow has a lot of characters plus a pretty mathematical approach to writing, but that ain't shit compared to moments of increasingly intense polyphony/plyrhythms or having a basis in more complex mathematics like the works of someone like Stockhausen.

The sheer fact that you think you have it all figured out only shows how it's actually tougher to reach into the depths of music due to how much more esoteric and abstract of a medium it is compared to simple/straightforward mediums like film or literature.

okay hang on a second I thought we were talking about *philosophical* depth/meaning/questions, not "getting your body moving" or being in a trance or whatever.

>>71301471

>they're different mediums. they are not the same.

that's exactly what I'm trying to say you fucking retarded cunt-mouth, and because of that it means music CANNOT EXPRESS WHAT OP IS SAYING the way other art mediums can.
>>
>>71301601
You made your example of depth from Gravity's Rainbow, which is a work not lauded for muh deepness because of themes it covers, but how it covers them. I gave examples of music with complex processes as a counterpoint.

You guys are caring too much about the what and not enough about the how/why. This won't get you far in life in general.

So youre saying poetry is not a form of literature right? Because music is often a backing to poetry

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral comes to mind. Here's a link to a great dissertation of sorts:

Don't bother unless your IQ is at least 115.
>>
>>71307208
No, it isn't.

3 is the GOAT.
>>
>>71300861
Music is unique in that absolute music exists in a realm outside of most concrete mediums. It's a "nonrepresentstive" art form which means the themes explored within the notes are not concrete.

I know it sounds pretentious but it's a reason there aren't any super specific themes in a lot of albums. There are pieces like NEU! where the emotionality heavily implies specific ideas but doesn't write them in stone.
>>
>>71306432
Even if you've never heard good lyrics doesn't mean that they can't exist or be written. Most musicians aren't poets. The fact still stands, however, that there is nothing that inherently limits lyrics from being good poetry. If you take a good poem and then sing over music, it doesn't suddenly become bad poetry because of that.

That one NMH album grapples with problems like, if I had a time machine could I actually fuck a dead Jewish girl?

I feel like no other medium has dealt with such a complex issue before
