Fuck man, it's one of my favorite albums and can't even begin to guess why. The heavy post-hardcore style mixed with elements that clearly pay homage to underground ska punk/punk rock music, and the production which sounds like an 80s/90s vhs tape. Great stuff, fucking love Brave Little Abacus.

People who think For Cameron is good have pretty terrible taste. It's literally just a William Bonney album. The other M.Ships stuff is top-notch though, few bands capture the feeling of being a 16 year old with your friends. Which is when emo makes the most sense imo, I bought the 75:24 compilation and a Snowing t-shirt when I was 16. That was my shit.

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with emo now. The more recent bands are really, really lame rehashes of rehashes.

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).

Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.

Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta.

Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral

my intro to screamo was merchant ships' "for cameron", fucking fantastic record with god-tier gut-wrenching lyrics, it is screamo and they don't pussyfoot around the harsh vocals (which i've never had a problem appreciating) but the midwest/twinkly instrumentation should appeal to you at least enough to get your foot in the door

things are okay really, i've actually been going through a period of incredible personal growth this past year, and ultimately it's not so bad. i tend to catastrophize a lot but really it's been great for me out here. the isolation is killing me though. and especially the insecurities i recognize as being clearly adolescent, such as friends moving on, and basically starting over. sentimentality and nostalgia. just the usual shit, all in all i recognize things aren't so bad. honestly, as sad as it may be, /emoe/ and 4chan help a good deal. as much as it can, being an anonymous forum on the internet anyway.

screamo is one of my favourite genres because its so fuckin expressive, the lyrics dont matter (i usually read them afterwords as a sort of accompanying poem to fit the feel of the song)

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).

Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.

Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta.

Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral

As defined by Sheri Schmit, discrimination (which racism fits into) is prejudice plus power.

I did fuck up when I said that racism is oppression. It IS discrimination. However, white people aren't even discriminated against. They've got unfair prejudice towards them but without the power, it falls short and doesn't actually become anything.

So racism (which is a form of discrimination) is prejudice plus power.

I also said that what white people confuse reverse racism for, is actually just a combination of racial prejudice and racial equality, which I still stand by.

So there's no racism towards white people. There's prejudice but without the power that we, as white people have, it doesn't count as discrimination.
