As a general rule of thumb, i dont think popularity determines quality. Yeah sure people who like obscure shit for no reason are poseurs but people who just listen to top 40 are actually retarded because they haven't bothered looking for music themselves. But the same applies to people who just follow /mu/core.

A mix of both is good.
