They were never good, never even ok, always nu-metal
Was Jesus Christ a decent person? Someone i know said everything he did was good thing?
Tool:
>technically proficient
>songs are well crafted but not to my liking
>Maynard Keenan seems like a really down-to-earth while taking his songwriting and performing seriously
>Tool has a reputation for having an absolutely revolting fan-base
They're a unique band in the sense they don't really appeal to most metal fans, but they're not particularly attractive to pop or rock audiences either so it's something of a miracle that a bunch of low-brow stoners got on board and became their obsessive fanbase.
Confession: I'm a terrible person to ask because I'm a shameless fan of Tori Amos and they also have a dreadful fanbase.

how?
neither are good, but I don't see why this comparison is so common.
front page reddit is that guy who slips in that he has self diagnosed anxiety within 10 sentences of hello, and tool is a 27 year old gas attendant with a greasy goatee and DC skate shoes who won't shut the fuck up about the catholic church being corrupt.
