What's the difference between "EDM" and the house, techno, etc. stuff that /bleep/ listens to?
EDM is a grouping for electronic dance music, within it are the prominent genres of house, techno, synthpop, etc.

that is just not true
Most of the EDM stuff that is blasted in the radio is formulaic un many many aspects. They all use mostly the same beat and have the same formula, while always being safe with whatever sound they use, even to the point of using the same 3 samples. The stuff you listen to /bleep/ has at the very core a mentality of "do my own thing, in a specific style". Of course, in a scene so big not every artist will make something different from everyone else but more often than not producers use different and daring samples or beats (ignoring the amen)
EDM has come to mean poppy electrohouse whereas bleep is not that

my bad. i recall hearing it on some doc years ago.

EDM is generally produced for playback by disc jockeys (DJs) who create seamless selections of tracks, called a mix, by segueing from one recording to another.
