Three projects for far, all varying from one another. "Algae Blooms" is ambient/experimental improv., "Alders" is some earlier tracks I spent more time on, and "Asellidae" is the sounds of aquatic pill bugs. Yeah.

Gonna check out some projects and leave my thoughts in a bit, here.

I don't know why I haven't checked out your stuff sooner; while some of it might be a little too "uppity" for my tastes, it's very well done and super chill. I particularly enjoyed the first track.

>>71088712
Your soundcloud track has a sparse feel to it in the beginning, and I mean that in the best way possible. Excellent use of a field recording; I need to get back to that myself. It'd be cool to hear, like, an extended version of this track that further builds. Overall a good listen!

Currently finishing the second part of my piano improvisations!

First thought of pseudo-wisdom to start out good enough:
>>71088565
At times I think the beats sounds way too flat. Then again it might be a stylistic choice judging by the "smooth beats" and "vapor trap" tags. I'm generally negative towards vaporwave of any kind but I quite dig this one if only because it sounds like it has a focus or two.

>>71088577
Samples from 90's to 2000's, you say? Why, that is unusual period of time to dig samples from. I think it needs more tweaking and the "loops" have to be more consistent to make layers out of them. But yeah, I'm not totally against this. Smooth, interesting, hopefully it won't give me a headache later on.

Gonna say a few words about ALL of you! Or at least the once who didn't got any word from me personally.

Wot mate? You want some dunkey?

>>71088589
Nah. Not bad but just way too bland. It's a old school with no additions and I can get behind that. But yeah, not my cup of tea, way to bland to be interesting to my tiny ears.

>>71088652
Yeah, so. I missed you a few times while passing by though BC threads and I haven't checked you out yet. My bad. I guess it all comes down to the idea. When I hear experimental improv. my red alarm immediately turn on. And yeah, it went to yellow while listening to parts of "Algae Blooms" which I find could be a lot better when scaled down to 5-10 minute tracks with no silence in-between. Also, I find that this ain't so much an improvisation but rather playing a tad along with the equipment but hey. "Asellidae" has a giant bass-driven flaw so fuck it, I'm not sticking to it, even though the concept seems nice and stuff. However, I'm gonna get behind "Alders in the Middle Reach" which is by all means the best out of these three in my opinion. A lot of work needed, and a lot to learn ahead of you. But yeah, "Asellidae" was the biggest mistake.

>>71088666
Surf up dude!
But for reals, when have we stopped making music that sounds like, well, something out of a Final Fantasy game? An old one at that. Technically it's doing it's job but hell man, I don't know, it doesn't speak to me at all. The plain fact that you made it so artificial it the cause I think. And that piano "sound" - ugh.

>>71088712
Yeah, fernando pessoa is your best track by far. Suffice to say I can't handle the rest after hearing that one. But seeing how you are a part of this collective I can understand that I just don't get the rest of it. Just don't call it IDM. It doesn't fit this thing at all, at least to me anyway.

Bah! Please. It's a cliche after cliche of lyrical noodles sprung up into something which sound awfully bland. And you need to work on those vocals dude! They doesn't sound good, at all. Music is OK but it's just that. I think it lost me in the same way that many modern-ish pop is. It got boring quickly and relatively mundane at the end. It's just "meh", sorry.

>>71089013

2 years old!? Track is dope. Listened to your other stuff too, nice. Followed.

Nice, but very midi sounding. If that's the kinda sound you're going for, but if not, get things off the grid and loosen things up a bit. Not much going on in dynamics or space, either. Composition is really nice, but could do with some work on mixing/effects. Pleasing listening, though.

>>71088853

That said, I could see myself putting this on to study to, makes for nice ambience. Although I skipped sections, I think I get the general vibe of your mixing, composition etc. Its well done. Is what it is, ambient ambience.

Weird as hell but I don't dig it. The fact that this is quite disjointed doesn't help me even acknowledge a lot of cool stuff done with your track. Vocals are putting me off. And yeah, it's unfinished, rushed, and a bit of a mess sadly. But hey, it's a good framework for something more polished and fancy!

>>71089544
Say it after me buddy: trap hi-hat and aesthetic is overdone. Repeat several times and apply it to your newest creation.

>>71089557
No worries man. Thanks for your comment!
Influences are many for me to choose from but top 6: Stars of the Lid, Grouper, Basinski, Tim Hecker, Phillip Glass and Pärt/Satie (cross one out although I currently search for any good recordings of Satie).

>>71089603
Yes, ambient ambience, perfect. Wanted that opinion more than ever since I'm trying to get on that tape+digital loop horse again so thanks for that. Also, agreed, a lot of people just wait to be praised I guess. Golden gooses and that.
Checked out "Sparks" and since I'm kind of a sucker to synthwave and a newbie in this I can see a lot of people who like this feel enjoying it. I can definitely props you for really nice production values although is it just me or is this mixed very loudly? Not obnoxiously loud but it still required me to silenced my volume. Maybe I'm too prepared for a quiet listening from all of the Bandcamp pages I checked out. But yeah, keep doing you. It seems a lot of fun from the genre outsider's point of view!

>>71089642

Using such a picture for such a mediocre house track is almost like a profanity. Which I'm totally against. I liked that "Cheay" had some trip-hop elements in there but it's all just. Meh.

Where is that goddamn Gucci guy? I need him so bad!
Also, really, UK Bass? Post Industrial? What are you, deaf? That's a straight out commercialized rap track! Something that could come out from the Young Money. But I find it more as an insult than an actual complement.

>>71089913
You have a cute little Mammoth with a nasty, very unpleasing vocals. Make that track an instrumental and we gonna be fine. The rest of your stuff i.e. Longing is yawn. Go that freak-folk route, get a better production qualities and we might think of you being actually decent. Which is really a big accomplishment seeing the stuff before you (at least few of them anyway).

Me and you buddy, we're on the same boat when it comes to the mastering so I can understand that.

I started to kind of come around to this one towards the end of the track. However, the acoustic guitar bits in the beginning sound just a little.... off, in regards to timing with the beat. Also, while I liked the quality of the distorted vocals themselves, they seemed a little out of place in a track sounding like this.
You're definitely well on your way, though. Best of luck with future endeavors!

>>
>>71089964
Cooleio beats. I'm tired of taking about any kind of beats. But yours are top 3 for now in this thread. Minus points for remixes.

>>71089969
Well, if the "epic music" you mentioned is just that then well, it is epic. But it is so reminiscent of other orchestral soundtrack thingy that it might make me confused for somebody else. Rest assured, this is k.

>>71089990
Well, okay. I get that PIL vibe alright. Maybe it's just it feels artificial, that is the instruments sound very weirdly and I can't say if it is because of the recording or the mixing but I would look into that. Also, I think drums or drum-esque sounds has to be a bit quieter. And yeah, this really, really lacks substance of sorts. Good start but I wouldn't yet share it online.

>>71090001
Sadly it is tropes. Piano clicking around to the beat sounds of the universe and a little hiss of tape (I suppose that's that). Nothing crazy, nothing fancy, nothing innovative and fairly short. The addition of the another instruments are always welcomed but since it's only 1:30 minutes in length they don't develop to anything interesting.

Even on the local scale. And that demands making ear-catching stuff that doesn't get saturated over everything else. So my comment was towards that. If you just make music for your enjoyment then that's fine. Then again, if it is just that, why share it online? And don't be angry at me, I'm just a kind of guy who doesn't dick around with peeps. I wish you all well.

You have no idea how much i need to hear shit like that, thanks. I'm gonna look into getting a better microphone and maybe find an alternative way to make drum sounds without actually having to buy a drum set. On the mixing side of things i'm completely clueless so i probably need to start looking into how that shit is done. Again, thanks for actually giving some good criticism.

Im really struggling with the mix and the master here, it's been months.

It needs the solo redone and I think the vocals need to be more floaty.

Huh, okay, I see what you wanted to did there. The problem with sampling is that sometimes the samples are if-y if you catch my drill. I assume you wanted to do something chill and that's fine. But from what I can hear your shared track was either recorded in a vacuum or has a very poor quality mixing. Shame, because chances are this could be more fleshed out. Think about working yourself not onto making tracks but mixing and searching for preferable source of good quality samples. Because I can't tell you if the samples are so numbed down or your mixing of them.

>>71090112
A hobby thing you say? At least I can say that you're not trying too hard and make it just for your own entertainment which I can appreciate fully. As for the beats.... yeah, I'll pass.

Oh how I hate these trap hi-hats, man. Truly, we hit it folks, I'm dead. Nah, kidding. So, your track has japanese symbols. It is from a genre of Future Bass. It is a tract that exists. It is OK for those who like that kind of stuff. But not me, sorry.

I don't decide whether or not you make or don't make a specific kind of music. We're humans, we don't have supernatural powers. And who am I, a typical Polish bloke making ambient music, decide what you do and what you don't. This whole thread is devoted primarily for showing off your stuff and presenting it to others. No you're right, it's the mixing or lack thereof. This track was made before I knew too much about mixing and kept all my tracks "flat" so to speak.

I wanted to revisit all of my older tracks but I had to reformat and lost the master files so I just said "F" it and accepted them as the way they are.

That's why I'm always telling people if they have a good track.... BACK IT UP! It may be okay or mediocre now, but you can always revisit it and if you lose that file you're shit out of luck.

https://soundcloud.com/conductorsound/hurted

(This is another track I lost the master on and it's okay, but it could have been great if I had only backed up the file, like ylu said it sounds like it's very flat or in a vaccuum
)

My track home run king was made when I was just dipping my toe into mixing and people seem to like that one, so I'm not really going to bother linking it.

However if you're interested in seeing something I actually tried to mix well, the intro to my channel is the latest thing I've made but it was more of an experiment than anything.

Reminds me of Toonami's Deep Space Bass except a lot less dynamic. What I mean by that is the songs don't really go anywhere. Where you start on the track is also essentially where you end, which some people love, but personally I am not a fan.

Not to be said the music isn't good, just repetitive.

dude let me get this straight. Judging by your comments on other people works you may think of being some kind of musical wizard, but you are just some deluded guy insulated from the rest of the world that think making "loop based dark ambient drone" in 2017 is cool. It's not incredibly bad, I mean, it's still better than most of the poorly produced music I see in these threads. But still, having a cracked version of ableton and lot of time to throw at this does not elevate you from the mass, at all. It's boring, the production is mostly superficial and it doesn't encourage me to listen to the whole thing, I just want to skip to other tracks until I find something interesting that never comes. Plus there are like a trillion artists that alread made better thing in this genre, listen to the caretaker or atrium carceri to name two random artist vaguely realated to your stuff. You've got lot to work on, but I think you are better at making salty comments than produce music; call me a cuck or throw some ironic comment at me or whatever if you feel to, see ya

Not the guy you're critiquing but I think when you post songs on the internet you gotta be open to all different types of critics.

Also you don't need to create a masterpiece to know how to judge them. It's not as if Roger Ebert was some amazing director, he just watched and knew a lot about movies.
>>
>>71090542
Few words of advice, really simple ones, I'm sure you got them at one point and/or you are aware of them:
1) Better mixing. I'm quite interested where you recorded all of your drums because they sound so thin and weak. "Is Joining" and probably other tracks (from the snippets I've heard) the vocals are way too loud in the mixing. And I don't know is that there is a better equipment used for these or what.
2) Drums are sometimes arythmic to the guitar sounds. Or vice versa, can't tell really.
3) Delivery is all over the place. It's so inconsistent it doesn't feel like an EP but a very bear demo bands use to prerecord their first takes.
But to play grunge with emo and punk combined is something I can get onto. Just because I can't remember that mix for the love of me.

>>71090549
Oh yeah, that Chrono Figger track, or whatever, is definitely better. Yeah making a back up can save a ton of stuff. I can't even imagine myself not doing this because the first raw takes are so shitty I could smell them from my hard drive. But yeah, keep at it and work on that backing-up addiction!
>>

Holy crap you're so wrong. First of all, "loop based dark ambient drone" in 2017 is being done. One of the primary examples of it is William Basinski's newest release. Have you actually heard it? It's all of this "loop based dark ambient drone" you're talking about. The fact that you feel that I think I'm some kind of musical wizard is only makes your point weaker. If I would think that why would I be here man? Would I waste my time here, commenting on all of those people stuff? Of course not. Additionally, I do not own Ableton nor have it cracked. All of the stuff was done via instruments and analog and digital effects. And agreed, you may not like my stuff. I think that many don't like it. To each their own. What you lack is exactly that - distance to your own stuff and to the words being said about that said stuff. And, agreed, Caretaker and Atrium Carceri are making better stuff than me. Never said otherwise. And hey, if my comments are salty I don't know what yours are. Additionally, I won't lower myself to call you "a cuck" since I don't know if you have any form of relationships with females and I don't know you personally. So, what's the point?
But hey, I am delusional at times. I do sometimes see salty bunnies hopping around.

This is cool. I like how it fades in and out with the sample. The textures are cool and the guitars are awesome. I feel like there are no lows in this song which it could definitely benefit from. Even if it's just a sine wave playing the root of each chord during the breakdowns. Great job

Nice recording and production quality. Maybe get more creative with the adlibs and overlays. Can't knock the rapping though.

ok man but most of the time you've been just being randomly bitchy to people who did nothing to deserved it if not making music not genre related to yours. I've listened to them and let me tell you, I enjoy a thousand times more some well made trap-chilly beat or sample based music even if there are like a trillion of them out there than some mediocre ambient stuff. But then again, I actually appreciated the fact you get through all of this, just see thing in the right perspective, you may learn a lot from other genres producers as well as they may learn a lot from you. If you aspire to be some kind of musican and not some critic, lurk in silence, eat on your plate, and think how to improve your stuff before making unecessary mad comments on the internet, as well I'll do it myself
>>
>>71090605
Bravo, you got me interested with your rap thingy! I'm kind of impressed. I like the brasses here and there, laying under the beats. Well done. To the quality of the lyrics - I'm really can't say, sorry. Not a rap guy myself. But really digging that beat, really, really.

>>71090651
Sorry, but where is my Boards of Canada vibe? Nah, just kidding. Although those keys sounds something like an old Casio thing. I feel like they don't stick well with an overall atmosphere, really. But you can make an atmosphere, at least the basics are laying out pretty solidly and that's something I can appreciate. But somebody who would prefer a more new-age music will most likely be onto this. Me personally I can say - https://soundcloud.com/therealredstar/watching-grass-grow-days-past, this one is your best. Thank you so much! And yeah the track isn't very dynamic but chalk that up to inexperience, it's one of my older tracks at this point.

I only just got around to uploading it to soundcloud.

>>71090605
IS this your track? I hope so.

Before I continue I'd like to ask if you are the producer or the rapper.

I really like the beat. Gives me a J.Dilla vibe which is why I'm going to say the next part.

The rapping doesn't match. I mean, it's on time and it rhymes, it just... doesn't fit. It's a very relaxed track with a nice chill saxophone playing in the back and you got this guy rapping over the top accenting every other word like he's on a gangsta rap beat.

Maybe some filters on the voice would help but it feels like an aggressive rapper with a lax beat and it mixes like milk and oil.

Personally I'd rather just have the milk. (An Instrumental)

Again, to each her own. We have a different viewing on some places and, again, that's fine, I was never oppose to that. And you can't behind mediocre ambient stuff and I can't get behind mediocre trap thingy. Is that OK? I think that's perfectly fine. And, agreed, though others work I can make my stuff better. That's a barely easy assumption to make and it was clear to me from the day one. Not in terms of music but also criticism, good or bad. However I can't get behind "the right perspective" - if I hear things that I don't like I'll tell them outright. More wittily or not this is something we need in that kind of places thriving and ultimately dying on. I'm not an easy guy, sure. But I can't take crap, sorry. And it has to be exposed so that they could see and say "maybe this cuck is right in that 1%?". I think that place is for that exact reason - telling and showing. Every comment should be seen and read, how bad or how good. Mixing feelings into it and calling me a delusional is not a right way of doing stuff. Sadly, I think that at this point we should stop to not make this thread a junk like tens of hundreds BC thread a while back. I hope this isn't condescending at all, but if you're going for J.Dilla and Nujabe style beats, it couldn't hurt to listen to a couple of hteir songs that have lyrics, no?

I also think mixing is a problem on your track, i.e. the vocals are too loud and the track is too quiet. Though I'm not sure if the track is too quiet in general or if it's just too quiet in relation to the vocals.

Here are some good examples my friend

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C3_dq5CO14

You can see in this J.Dilla track ft. The Pharcyde these guys are real relaxed and chill but come across all the cooler because it seems like they aren't even trying that hard. J.Dilla is awesome but he just would not work with most rap styles.

Same with Nujabes.

A classic is Nujabe's Feather Ft. Cise Starr and Akin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfFTT3iz740

They're not trying to be hardcore or aggressive with their raps, they're just calm, cool, and collected, which is what you should aim for if these are the beats you're aiming for basing your music off of.

Negative or positive, Aer is keeping this thread alive by posting and giving people's songs attention.

I'd rather have a negative or honest review than nobody looking at my track at all.

A lot of people just post and jet off, and whether you agree with Aer or not doesn't matter.

If you think he's been unfair to someone.... rec them and tell them the good things you like about them.

This is a thread for people to get advice and/or attention, and it won't always be one or the other. Any activity at all is good.

Is Aer's music to my liking? Not really, no. Drone music kinda hurts my head desu. But I'm not going to judge his criticisms off the music he makes, rather if his comments have any validity and from what I've seen they almost always do.

If your song can be summed up in "it's too bland" it probably is and I don't know what advice you want someone else to give you on that.

For a song with the genre of bass you'd expect there to be a lot more. Sure there is bass in the song, but it left me wanting, especially with the preconcieved notion that it was going to be a bass driven track.

I mean it's not bad but this is weaker than a lot of Drum n' Bass songs, let alone Bass in general.

https://soundcloud.com/fresh-new-junk/dark-cascade

Was okay. The "drop" as you would call it in a dubstep track wasn't much of a drop. I think usually what they do is build up or slow down and then drop, but yours just drops out of nowhere.

It's not bad but Dubstep is an annoying genre because of all the dynamic tricks you need to know before you can really make anything decent in the genre.

Ya I'd throw a tag on but IDK if there's much of a point. I've already posted a few songs anyway to pretty good response.

My post didn't tag anyone actually, it was just a general statement.

Reminds me of a song by Carly Simon from the early 70's...

I think it was called.... You're so... what was it now?

It's on the tip of my tongue.

Wow those lyrics/vocals really surprised me. Awesome track, but there needs to be something more to hold it together. And I rarely say this but I feel your vocals are being buried and deserve to be front and center.

Not overpower the other things, but they are a little quiet.

Great work!

Pauly P from Alco Hall Icks here

Yea, the drums are some shitty beater set I got for house sitting a friend's place. I actually have nice mixer software, I just don't have a good mic and was using a mic on my beat up 2008 Dell Inspiron (mainly because the input for my mic was broken lol). I just called it an EP because it's short, not for any other reason. At the moment I'm trying to save up for studio time and find a drummer who can drum far better than I can.

I'll work on my delivery for upcoming tracks, thank you for the advice man :)

well that's a very uhh... grim track name.

Not a fan of the chipmunk voice.

And maybe it's just the mixing/volume levels but that droning sound is really in my face to the point where I had to turn down the track a lot.

I can see good ideas in the track but overall I think, at least this one track, does not come together into an enjoyable listening experience.

Thinking about it too, yeah.
Tell you what, we make a podcast talking about SC and BC releases. I think I have a good name for it:
"Delusional Bunny and Anime Faces"
Okay, that was a crappy name...

>>71091571
That's a solid demo there! Not really much to add outside of that. I like that vibe, that feeling of it all. So you get some positive feedback for a start!

How? Literally how is that modern classical? Like, seriously, how? Anybody, anyone?
Track itself isn't much to talk about but I'm interested how long it take you to make. Assumption: a week

>>71091621
What a weird thing coming from a bushes. Voice modulated to almost "me no likey" levels, feels awfully like grime. I love that cover art though, really pleasing to my eye balls. However it comes out as pretty annoying in general which is just no.1 sign of a faulty creation.

I think that would actually be pretty fun, I've even got a blue yeti which is what most noobs use for podcast mics.

>How? Literally how is that modern classical? Like, seriously, how? Anybody, anyone?
it's modern and it has elements of classical?
>>
>>71091815
also i listened to your epiglottis stuff and it's the most effortless drone bullshit i've ever heard so why are you giving me attitude?
>>
>>71091857
Weeb and Leab... umm... yeah...
Yeah, I would kill for a blue yeti, these mics are extremely overpriced here to the point that they are just not even worth it which is always a big pile of dookie.

>>71091795
Ohhh, juicy! I like it. I do. Maybe a bit loud. Maybe a tad bit artificial but I'm starting to see that this artificiality is being good for that kind of genre. I could give you a handshake right now.

>>71091948
You mean, when the beat starts it is modern classical or before it starts? Over-layered vocals doesn't make it modern classical. Consider that modern classical =/= modern music with "classical" somethings. Sigur Ros is not modern classical yet incorporate string instruments or brass ones.
And why so salty over someone else opinion man? Can you not handle opinions? Also, yeah, I don't agree with the effortless part. Have you actually give my stuff a listen. If yes, which one?

Sounds more like a broken robotic barbershop quartet than opera.

And... uhm. Not really classical either. I mean I kind of guessed that from looking at the art used but now I'm certain.

I've gotta go up in the thread to dig for more links

>>71089369

I listened to your first track Jelpocalypse and it's... very interesting. Not something I'd put on myself but I wouldn't lie if I said I didn't enjoy it in a sort of experimental way.

Personally I like your more traditional tracks like GOAWAY(FT. BUBBLES) but if you want to push this experimental stuff then more power to you. This sort of reminds me of another artist called SOPHIE

I dont know what kind of advice you are really expecting.

It's clear you've got some sort of sound in mind, and I've never heard anything like that before.

I could tell you I don't like it, but what would that accomplish?

What do you want me to say? Don't play the same vocal 4 times on top of each-other?

I don't have any advice for you that wouldn't be completely changing your style, I'm sorry.

First I gotta say that I love your soundcloud pic is Jason from Home Movies. Great show, great time in my life watching that every night.

That being said your beats feel very bare bones, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

They're very repetitive though almost like I'm listening to a loop rather than a track. Which... isn't great but isn't terrible either.

I think your tracks would benefit from having a rapper on them but finding a good rapper is hard as they are far and few between.
