How do I get into Yo La Tengo? I tried listening to this album

Yo La Tengo is a pretty subdued band because, you know, dream pop. Try I Am Not Afraid of You..., it's probably Yo La Tengo's most interesting album.

Yo La Tengo doesn't have a magnum opus, obvious intro album--they really just have a career's worth of great but not amazing albums. You can't really go wrong with them.

That's how I feel about this album too. I Can Hear the Heart and And Then Nothing Turned Itself are both much better, try those.

Summer Sun is a great album. It's not an album for most people but that's okay.

Today is the Day is amazing, that's true. They've done the louder/softer gimmick for a few of their singles to varying degrees of success, but on that one it really works just as good both ways
