proper bass playing is an entirely different skillset to guitar. writing grooves that emphasise both the beat and melody, plus your timing has to be perfect.

Other instruments have to played in time sure, but bassists require dead precision. Everybody revolves around you, especially the drummer who can easily lose the beat after a fill.
