Has anyone here ever had the ATH-M40x? I'm reading reviews and they appear to be amazing for the price tag but I want some user opinions too.

Hmm. First time I hear of this concept. Read up a bit about it, sounds like the sort of thing I would want in a pair. Unfortunately the other two aren't really available to me where I live, and the Koss looks very fragile which worries me too.
To clarify, the headphones I want to buy (which might be the ATH-M40x) are gonna serve for music listening, gaming, and music making.

Anyone have experience with the AKG k 240?

the m40x won't be particularly useful for gaming, because of the lack of soundstage. for making music they're fine, lots of people use m-series headphones and the m40x is more flat than the m50x. for listening it's a matter of preference re: soundstage. personally it's one of the main things I look for in headphones

the newish DT1170 are very good
neutral as fuck and yet they're not completely dull
good noise isolation
replacable cable and earpads (comes with spares for both) and a good carrying case so they'll probably last forever, also built like a tank

i have and use a pair regularly, good sound and very comfortable, i fell asleep with them on last night and my ears didn't hurt at all when i woke up, dont fall asleep with them on because they might get broken, bu if you happen to, its not uncomfortable.
