Hey guys,
I picked up a squier Classic Vibe Telecaster a couple of months ago
It's honestly such a great guitar for the price it has and it plays great.
The pickups can be kinda noisy though, any good suggestions for upgrades?
Mostly into cleaner guitar stuff
>>
>>70985544
Depends on what you can spend. But Gison/Epiphone SG is as good as any to learn on. I wouldn't worry much about trim level of the instrument, just basic style and how to set it up.

>>
>>70985890
Try this tool. It gives you all the notes on the fretboard in a given chord and you can make your own arpeggio shapes from it. Although be aware that once you get to chords with many notes in them you have to know on your own when to omit certain notes otherwise it ends up sounding like a scale run

How much did a Roland Jazz Chorus cost when it first came out? I read it became really popular in the 70s because it was more affordable than a tube amp and still produced a decent tone, but today they're in the same price range as a Vox AC-30 or a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

How do people compose two-note chord melodies, like Bach Bouree for example? Do they spend all day figuring the chords and scale notes for that?

Someones angry ladypal took their butthurt out on it, so I got it cheap as a result. Just gotta be on the lookout. It is nice though, love it lots

Lol, I remember that. Weren't ya just gonna yank the speakers? Which isn't a bad idea for the price, though they're not great. Shall be replaced at some pt. The cab itself sounds quite nice, though. Gonna have to find something that's rattling at high volume when I open it up, but it sounds great minus that.
>>
>>70991661
I remember learning two part harmony in a theory class a long time ago, and there was definitely a method they taught us (as opposed to guess work). I can't find much online about it though. There might be some stuff with Ted Greene discussing similar ideas.

Sixths and thirds are traditionally the most common harmonies in this kind of thing.

You could cycle of fourths your 7 shapes here which I always struggle with (and doubt its usefulness in honesty).

Play each mode off of the 3rd string (G) fifth fret (C) to become accustomed to their sounds.

One of the big box stores I used to try out guitars at regularly had a used 360 in Montezuma. I'd love to get a 4003 in white and black trim but holy fuck that finish is beautiful

Yup, just have the mindset of buying something at a low price with the intention of reselling it for a profit. I bought my Flying V for $400 with the intention to resell at $600 and a 1970 Mustang I snatched up for $650 with the intention to make a fortune but I've loved both guitars and now they're my live mains(when we get to play professional venues where there's no chance to get stolen and tours and that's when I use my Squier and Epi versions)

Also start off by specializing in a brand you know, luckily for me it was Fender and I've had every guitar except a Coronado pass through me. Reverb's price guides can be helpful in noticing trends also before buying a piece of gear to resell look online to see your competitiors in the used market
>>
>>70992876
It's sad you find my post unbelievable, another indication of your disconnect from actual experience with playing music.

Playing professionally isn't some exclusive, glamorous thing, as long as you have competent skills and know people, it's pretty easy to find steady work.

Timing is literally the easiest part. That must be why you dont play live, you cant keep up
>>
>>70993589
>Timing is literally the easiest part.
Shitty musician alert
>>
>>70993646
Lol wut. Maybe it just doesnt come naturally to you, but really if you cant understand timing then maybe you shouldnt even be playing an instrument.

It tends to be harder for autistic people to understand rhythm, just saying.
>>
>>70993514
I swear just being too fucking expensive is part of their business model
Get teenagers with only a Squier P-Bass drooling over the one thing they can't have, so when they actually start making money they go for their dream bass without stopping to find out whether its actually any good
>>
>>70992158
I'll look up for that guy thanks
>>
>>70993514
>flood the market with decent-sounding Rick basses that actually fucking work

and from that day on, no one ever bought a Squier bass ever again

>Puts more time into what she looks like rather than writing anything good
>>
>>70993023
That's basically what I've started doing. Gone few a couple pedals so far, but I'd like to get into instruments. Just need to get the packing and shipping logistics down. Gotta have quite the box and packing materials collection.

But yeah, I was gonna basically trawl Reverb and see what's what before diving into that kind of thing. It is cool that you can start with a small investment and end up owning gear worth far more than you started with, trying all sorts of stuff along the way.
>>
>>70993703
Seriously though. If you think timing is the "easiest part" you're either playing really boring music or worse at it than you think.

Anyone can play with a metronome and learn basic concepts of timing, but having a good sense of timing and developing a solid feel is definitely not easy for most musicians (or they literally just don't realize they're bad at it). It's like the difference of using a computer to conduct an orchestra, and an experienced conductor.
