Do these things have any merit as a musical instrument outside of educational purposes? should I just get a job and buy a sax?
>>
Pretty much no. There are baroque recorders for baroque pieces but those cost wayyyyy more. Get yourself a sax or clarinet. But sax is easier imo
>>
Listen to more Lullatone

Get a Sax and if you DO get a Sax, get a Tenor. It's objectively the coolest one.
>>
Lmgtfy, since you got me interested in songs that feature recorders.

It's definitely a good accompaniment / countermelody instrument, but it won't get you any bitches or session musician gigs, so get a sax.

Also, here's the GOAT song featuring a recorder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLHt_xScc38

Get a proper flute and start covering Jethro Tull
>>
I have a shitty plastic recorder. It's kind of fun to record yourself playing then completely change the timbre in post-production. As-is they sound terrible and cheap. I'm currently modifying mine with an aluminum coating and electric pickup so it'll sound so distorted and shitty that it's something new.

They do if you want to make some twee
>>
>>70968406
They are fun to play on voice chat and annoy people
>>70967017
I would want to get a trumpet. Is there a reason nobody mentions trumpets anywhere? Should i get it?
>>
>>70968701
Nobody understands how they work except for band geeks and they don't listen to the same music as us.
>>
>>70966852
That's a crackpipe
>>
Why wouldn't they? If you like how they sound then go with them. I use them in recordings sometimes
>>
>>70968701
I rented one for a month and by the end I was a pretty good player. The only thing that is hard is remember your fingering and getting the high notes. I always had a fingering chart open in front of me
>>
>>70969093
It was a lot of fun though. I couldn't put it down at times.
>>
Kinda unrelated but do you need a teacher to learn an instrument? I want to pick up a guitar but idk if i want to spend money on lessons too.
>>
>>70969175
do you have any prior history playing music? I taught myself guitar from the internet, but I also had been playing piano for awhile so that might have helped
>>
>>70969175
although my buddy has no musical experience and taught himself the guitar basics from will power and the internet also, guitar I think you'd be able to learn fine. just with patience and trial/error
>>
>>70969175
Almost everyone who learns guitar does it self-taught.
Just make sure to continue to play songs out of your comfort zone to improve and look up form videos so you don't develop terrible finger posture.
Piano and violin are completely different beasts, can be self-taught but one needs to be VERY conscious of bad habits and fix them accordingly.

Yeah, listen to Floex. Classicaly trained clarinetist or whatever you call it. He's an "electronic" musician but makes good use of his clarniet skills in his music. Wonderful to listen to.
