Thoughts on the pinkshinyultrablast album from last year? Definitely in my top 5.
>>70843700
It was great. Wouldn't call it genre defining, but definitely a solid album all around.
Between this and the new Kairon; IRSE! release, am I caught up on all the noteworthy genre releases this year?
I love Endlessly so much I'm afraid to listen to the rest of the album and have it be a disappointment.

Essential spring-core shoegaze?
ok i guess it was a mistake to remove lazy legs
for some reason i thought it was released in 2016 but ill fix that
this is a chart to put the best shugazi albums from this year btw. right now it's nowhere near full so ill just put anything in there. over the year we'll refine it and edit it to the point where it ends up actually good
>>70846554
I listened to this so much last spring just remembering songs like Mölkky and Kiddie Pool Dreams makes me think of warm spring breezes and flowering trees. It's not quite spring yet though, but I'm planning on giving this album another spin this year too once it warms up.
Is this the only band that's both shugazi and prog?

im not sure if i know of any shoegaze bands that have lyrical themes abt gender dysphoria and that stuff, id definitely be interested too. there's a bunch of artists of other genres that write about that though like aye nako or lauren bousfield.
also while im still fairly cis (i think...) i deal w wanting to look more feminine or at least androgynous too and ive written some gaze-ish music about it if yr interested; https://debutantemusic.bandcamp.com/

Decided not to add the Ayges thing cause that was more like a single and I almost didn't add the Golden Fable one, cause it didn't sound shugazi enough to me (and I don't think it's that great), but it sounds dreamy enough I guess.
Didn't listen to any of these in full, just skimmed through bits of all of them, but some of these seem really interesting and promising. Ersatz Window, Silver Shadows, tamagotoji, Super Magnet, and io audio recordings in particular seem like some of the most interesting stuff I've heard in a long long time.

It's a bit boring and one-dimensional. It doesn't really go anywhere or keep my interest. You've got interesting textures and whatnot, but there's no compelling song underneath. It's just that all the members and contributors were vegan when we started the band and we wrote a song about captive orcas so it fits well. It's nothing more than a meme though we write songs about captivity and animals in general. We just put this tag for fun.

This is the closest the album gets to explaining its concept. You could try the lyrics, but between the whispered vocals and the fact that they don't even try to make sentences fit the verse, I'm not sure they give that many fucks about the lyrics.
Their previous 2 albums were based on actual books. The first on "The Sea Around Us" by Rachel Carson (author of "Silent Spring") and the second on an obscure textbook, "The Secret Life of the Forest" by Richard Ketchum. I would recommend the former, but since I last checked the price on Amazon has shot up from $1 to $15.
this probably doesn't belong in the thread but how does one fit the shoegaze aesthetic, i've never seen someone who listens to shoegaze so i'm just wondering what their 'essentials' or 'starter pack might be

shugazi is appealing to the mentally ill. It's like wrapping yourself in layers of guitars for emotional warmth. Listening to shugazi is like drifting aimlessly so it's perfect for people without direction in life. I dunno about trannies but I'm depressed and that's what I think about my favorite genre.
