tabs are only acceptable if you only play guitar, and don't ever intend to apply that music to another instrument outside the guitar family.

If you are a multi instrumentalist you'll realize really quickly why tabs are shitty notation. They're ok if all you can do is play a guitar and follow instructions. also you pretty much have to know what the song sounds like in terms of rhythm if you want to play it correctly from tabs.
They also wrongly assume finger positions and string choices. most tabs I've used and compared to a video of the artist playing, the tabs just are not the same.

proper notation is like a roadmap of the music as it sounds.
guitar tab is like a roadmap of your hand motions, assuming other variables like string tuning and fret spacing remain the same.
