While a lot of them share the same success that was exclusive only to rock bands a few years ago, they at least had live instruments and knew how to play them. If your lyrics are shit, all you're really doing is mumbling into a mic for half an hour, which takes a lot less effort than actually rapping well-written stuff, singing or playing an instrument.
