A lot of people will still care about this album in 3 years time

If that's true then it's an indictment on modern culture. But it won't happen since the BLM #handsupgoloot trend is dying off.

that very high RYM rating won't just disappear in 3 years, it'll still be there and more and more people will be discovering this materpiece because of that. so your prediction is wrong, nigga

Nope. I see a reverse Pinkerton on the horizon. People will look back on it and say "Shit...what the fuck were we thinking? A grammy for a booboo?"

ITT: Autistic screeching

Like it or hate it, TPAB and GKMD are The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon of the early 2010s. There are no other albums that come close to that level of popularity, quality, critical acclaim, and cultural relevance. Some might be more popular, some might be better albums, some might have better reviews, some might better capture little pieces of the 2010s, but try to name me an album that hits all four as well.

I'll wait.
>>
>>70658894

it's really like blaming essjews is just the thing to do when you're a triggered baby
>>
>>70658934
There is nothing worth saving from this generation, so any album that manages to "capture it" or appeal to it, or "define it" will be garbage relative to any other era so it doesn't matter how well it does any of the aforementioned things since it's all shit no matter what.

>>70658991
I know, I wasn't calling you a SJW. There were some initiatives by people who got buthurt by some themes in the album to lower its rating down. It's a well known fact on RYM.

>blaming essjews on something that has nothing to do with social justice, or even politics in general

What the fuck are talking about? Even Rivers Cuomo reacted to it in the early days (see pic)

>muh wrong generation

Ignoring how retarded "generations" are as a concept invented by marketers to artificially create easy to cater to demographics, "this generation" is no more or less retarded than the ones that came before it or the ones that come after it. You hate "this generation" because you're a part of it, you're a part of its history, and as a result you're actually affected by the bullshit that "this generation" caused.

You can look back on the 70's and 80's and say "they had good music" not because the music of the age was better or worse, but because enough time has passed for the politics of then to not connect with the politics of now.

No one has a time machine, no one can say with 100% certainty what will be popular in 3 years but I cited an example of how this album is culturally having a continuing impact OUTSIDE OF MUSIC 2 years after release so I'd love to hear a better guess with evidence.
>>
>>70659687
Look at the past, everything that was popular in the 80s and 90s musically and linked to social activism is no longer relevant in the modern day, therefore it's safe to assume we're due for another one of those shifts leaving behind the 2010s and moving toward the 2020s.

What a ridiculous post. Socially relevant music from slave spirituals to folk music to the blues is the foundation of American music and will continue having relevance as long as American culture does.

>>70657951

Critics, the albums main audience, will shun it in their end of the decade lists.

Bob Dylan is still popular. Not that Kendrick is half as good or as popular as Dylan was.

>>
>>70660278
It's a really good album that was hyped so hard people are starting to get sick of it. It's "normie" music, so everyone with critical cred is trying hard to disown it to get in with the cool kids.
>>
>>70660278
major critics will shun it because Lemonade, Colouring Book and Solange took over as the token "no really please we care about black culture please give us views" albums but anyone who gives a shit about the actual music will probably include it somewhere down the line.
>>
>>70660300
Not really. It was popular, and it was good, and people liked it, but Kanye's music isn't a product of modern society like GKMD and TPAB. If anything it's the other way around, Kanye's strong artistic vision driving progress forward into the more enigmatic parts of hip hop.

It's more like Kid A in that sense.
>>
>>70657986
>But it won't happen since the BLM #handsupgoloot trend is dying off

This album has nothing to do with BLM, idiot. If you actually listened to the album, it's against the whole notion.

>it's against the whole notion.

>>
>>70658934
Correct post desu
>>
>>70660550
It's a catchy hook about self respect for blacks and other minorities. If most people understood Kendrick's real content of the matter, they probably wouldn't sing his songs.
>>
>>70660576
Not that anon, but TPAB is a meditation on Kendrick's power, prominence, influence, and celebrity status (I'd call it privilege but I'm on thin ice as is here) in comparison to the past, present, and very uncertain future of black America. So there are a lot of parts that are actually more critiques of black society (the ending of Blacker the Berry, some interpretations of u, Complexion, etc.)., and while there are some parts that are more angry outbursts at popular society, the album isn't really a "fuck y'all white people" that it was initially perceived as. It's less about black struggle and more about Kendrick's personal struggle, using the story of black America as backdrop.
>>
>>70660645
>It's a catchy hook about self respect for blacks and other minorities
If that's true then good, but it's a shame that isn't how it's been received.
>>
>>70660576
>In what way?

For one, the song "Blacker the Berry" says black people complaining about cops killing blacks is hypocritical because blacks kill other blacks in the hood. That's why he keeps saying "hypocrite" in the song. For the rest of the album, the album tells blacks to act accordantly or else they'll keep getting treated like shit and keep getting killed.
>>
>>70660691

What in this post argues that the album is against BLM?

>fails to realize this is him bringing up an opposing viewpoint so he can take it down

funny how people with no sense of nuance fail to see it when others use it huh
>>
>>70660734

This is entirely off base. The song is about self-hatred in the black community. The hypocrite statement is an entirely personal one that isn't meant to be some broad indictment of black culture.

If you think Kendrick believes that black people have no right to be critical of the police murdering innocent blacks because there is violence in the hood you really couldn't be more wrong.

How does he takes it down? If you see his interviews about the blm movement , he states that's it's up to blacks to have respect for themselves and stop being criminals. IMO , that doesn't really stop police brutality
>>
>>70660818
No it's not, it's the other way around. He ends the song on a note of hypocrisy, thereby taking down the BLM rhetoric that ignores black on black crime.
