Does old /mu/ still visit? I don't mean 2014 /mu/.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

There used to be a community. Now there is just memes.

Also the old guard, like me and the other trip/avatarfags are too caught up in memories/old music/old memes/whatever to really care or try anymore. Plus we're the minority now.

Hell, I remember when Hospice love wasn't ironic.

>There used to be a community.
This being the main issue. I remember coming home from work and checking /mu/ to see if specific people were posting so we could chat. There was a sense of comradery. It's hard to build/sustain that now with how many people visit the board.

Not to mention all the chat/cam rooms.
>>
>>70605785
I always had this romantic view of trips as a genuinely good thing for the board but after being here for a bit and seeing the way people turned montie and unty into memes I completely gave up on the idea of trying.

I like this board but I see little discussions just like this one pop up all the time and people ignore them, most of them don't want to improve the board.

I hate that people can't just say what albums they like most of the time, I almost talked myself into belling that I didn't actually like ITAOTS because of /mu/ memes at which point I took a good long break from this place.
>>
>>70605928
That sounds really cool, it reminds me of the internet I grew up with. E-friends are the best.
>>
I tripped as roseanon in like, 2009. There were a couple of other lame tripfags back then that were called Xanon, like alice and katy.

But I don't come here much anymore.

2011 reporting in

I feel like I come back sometimes with this masochistic sense of curiosity. the memes make me feel hollow and I hate it.

on occasion there will be one or two threads on something I'm genuinely interested in and want to discuss, I have to consistently fight to keep alive. sometimes they stick around, sometimes they go, and the rest get meme'd into oblivion. :(
>>
>>70605100

Honestly, it's super hard to find here on 4chan anymore. I am a major player on reddit now, and the whole username cult of personality makes it a lot easier to make e-friends. Sometimes I miss the special vibe of a 4chan discussion, so I come back.

This is my first time tripfagging in over 3 years, but I remembered my tripcode password.

>>
>>70605968
Trips can be a genuinely good thing for the board, montie and unty being prime examples. Unfortunately they were turned into memes but they were divisive and opinionated and those are the two most redeeming attributes of any tripfag.
>>

And I mainly stopped posting because the facist mods banned my original tripcode and were banning me for evey little thing I said.

This was during the heavy crackdown on tripfags and when they started hiring janitors and actual mods for the board.

/mu/ was an actual community before the mods sterilized everything.

>>
>>70610308
you're either being silly or you're super new
>>
>>70610316
Nah, I'm being semi-serious. I do hate people who think they need personality on Internet discussion boards. What made the community here so great was an implied similarity we all had that would come out with specific topics, but I've been around too long to actually endorse e-friends anymore. And this is the only community I have left because of the anonymity, I still use other sites but I hate the fucking personalities so I avoid their forums like the plague and could never use a site like rebbit.
>>
>>70610419
i get where you're coming from, and on probably any other board i'd agree, but i found the oldschool trips on this board to be a plus for sure

a lot of them really knew their shit when it came to recs or at the very least had some good discussion to contribute most of the time

instead of it being some actual autist engaging in shitposting in every thread

by that's just how i saw it
>>
>>70610508
I did like some of the ones from this specific board back then, but I think /daily/ is a perfect example of why that would never work again and it's only the fact they are contained that this board isn't completely unusable
>>
>>70610419

this is youngfag idiocy. trips weren't horrible in toto. some were good and some were shit.

sky would show up just to do great share threads and he'd pretty much disappear after. he was a good trip and everyone respected him so sky share threads had a kind of mark of comfy and community to them. that trip enhanced the board. there were plenty of other trips that were more antagonistic but just as good. sticky stumps was an oldfag weirdo dorkmax but he was a brilliant trip.

same with all the trips in the holyfuckingshit40k set when the blog FLAC shares thing was big. they were all good trips and posters here.

you don't know shit about this board or its history.
>>
>>70610556
oh yeah no, /mu/ has way too many people coming in and out of it to have quality trips anymore

any new trips would be straight up crossboarding attention whores instead of people who're just as concerned with the quality of the board as everyone else is and who want to help foster the overall community

It was old /mu/, they called /mu/ the playground of the world.
There was no place like it, in the whole world... like /mu/ when I was a youngster.
No place in the world like it!
It was so fabulous, now it's shrunk down to almost nothing, you see, eh-heh.
And I still remember, in my mind how things used to be.

But people from all over the world came here, from all over the world.
There was a playground they called the playground of the world, over here.
Anyways, so but I-ah you know.

4chan was definitely better. I was talking about it with some friends the other day, it was just a better group of people. /b/ gained notoriety amongst the normies and they started swarming our other boards and tried to fit in but totally got it wrong, driving it all to shit. I'm not a neckbeard autist from /r9k/ or anything, but we had a culture and it got completely and thoroughly shat on.

>>
>>70615309
I don't know. 7 years ago no one would've taken Trump or /pol/tardism seriously. Now they actually and truly believe in their own bullshit.

4chan as a whole used to be more contrarian and apolotical as a whole. Nowadays, it's just contrarian, but without any wit or class, just the same old 16 yr old "cuck cuck libshits" "humor". Before Obama, it swing slightly to the left. After 8 years of "liberalism", it has swung stupidly into the right. What remains to be seen is if the right wing phase was just contrarianism, or if the pendulum will swing back and /pol/ will calm down

This is just untrue. Sure people circlejerked about ITAOTS, Loveless, Radiohead etc, but that's just the same now. Back then there were still people who had a great love and knowledge of a genre, it's not like we started having generals and then suddenly everyone actually learnt about music.
>>
>>70615453
Sure people still post the same old shit now but jazz and bleep (for examples) are necessary to get past Davis, Coltrane, the list goes on..... or Daft Punk, Justice, the list goes on....
>>
>>70615430
True, /pol/ is a cesspool. But on most other boards if you try to show support, or even talk about Trump you'll get shouted down. Most of the boards outside of the biggest few (/b/, /pol/, /tv/, /int/, /mu/) are still pretty good.
>>
>>70615485
This this this

Before there was a /Bleep/, every time an "electronic music" thread was made, it never went past "autechre, afx, daft punk, list goes on". Some generals are necessary
>>
I miss old 4chan.
How do we fix it? ;_;
>>
>>70615430
you kind find all of this bull shit on reddit. Most of the major news subreddits are full of it.

There doesn't need to be a persistent thread at all times though, as that just inherently leads to off-topic discussion.

This comic illustrates my point, though I do concede that it is somewhat over the top

Even after all these years, quads still give me a rush of happiness.

This is a better constructed argument
>>
>>70615555
The problem there though is a lot of /bleep/ only come here for /bleep/ so there needs to be a thread.
>>
I came here all the time for years, briefly tripped mainly for share thread taste reference, but stopped for the last 4 or 5 years.

Now I only swing by when certain bands have new albums, I'm bored, or there's something going on.

>>70609884
I remember you, and Gears, and so many other trips. There was a sort of community back then, for sure.
>>
>>70615522
Oh no doubt. I never said reddit was much better. But outside of the default and most political subreddits, there are a lot of decent communities in reddit. The upboat system tho, it does tend to favor herd mentality, but there are ways around it.

As a whole tho, 4chan has gotten almost unbearable, out of some boards. I used to visit old /r9k/ to shoot the shit with what back then was a weirder, slower /b/. Nowadays its Bitter Virgin Woman Hating Redpill central, nothing but whining and complaining. Old /pol/, used to be RON PAUL /b/, nowadays its r/the_dolan

Imho nu-pol and /v/ (gamergate) ruined 4chan.
>>
>tripfags from the days of yore are still around but just shitpost or make posts that are unnecessary for the identity of the poster just for the sake or posting with an identity
>every "member when 4chan was good?" post is ALWAYS about someone's first year
>>
>>70615580
This is the same logic that allowed /pol/ to become the behemoth that it is. Containment threads are a terrible idea.

Also, my personal suggestion is for each board to have a sub-board. /v/ has /vg/, so /mu/ would have /mug/, /tv/ would have /tvg/. These would only be accessible through the main board, similar to how text-boards were.
>>
>>70615623
Well we can't make sub-boards so what else is there?

Fuck last.fm for getting rid of groups desu, at least with B&B we could avoid this shithole.
>>
>>70615557
>>70615580
/bleep/ is ass

It's just a bunch of pretentious teenagers who think they are cool for listening to dance music.
Also there's barely any music discussion going on there. A few people post ''bangers'' while others circlejerk with namefigs or have an irrelevant discussion about nightclubs, drugs and whatnot
>>
>>70615684
I think /bleep/ is largely shit but if you want to talk about dance music here, its the only option unless you want to circlejerk over Daft Punk and Justice, again.
>>
>>70615659
Doesn't take much money or effort to start a forum, which is what most general users want anyway. Persistent threads they can easily search through with archives (another thing that makes 4chan suck these days, though I do concede it's useful for sharethreads)
>>
'9 here like others said there were slme good times but as soon as most trips left and mediafire died it went to ass only some generals nowadays are worth visiting anymore

>>70609706
The backpacker rap invasion and waifu wars were fucking awful though
>>
>>70615723
Its been tried, not just for /bleep/ but generally too, the only really good thing about 4chan is high traffic.

I browsed back in 2007 or so, mostly for dem rapidshare links on the share threads. Honestly I don't remember much, and it doesn't seem any different now. I wish I could remember some sort of old memes but I guess they weren't that memorable lol.

Yes! I miss old /mu/ a lot, it's a damn shame

I remember hoarding gigs and gigs of music from sharethreads that I never ended up listening to, all the friendly and helpful anons in those threads, actual helpful tripfags... Shit was so comfy back then

I'm reminiscing about all the shitstorms and memes from back in the day. The MBDTF 10. Exmilitary/The Money Store first dropping and all of the subsequent Death Grips memes. The Death Grips ARG. The MBV return. The BoC return. The endless supply of genre charts people would make. The Vocaroo threads. The "/mu/ sings" threads.
It's weird how this website was actually such a big part of my teen years. It doesn't make me sad, I just feel nostalgia
>>
>>70609607
I've been out of the loop.

What do you guys mean mediafire kicked the bucket? It still works perfectly for me. Is there some kind of filter that we can't post it on /mu/ anymore?
>>
Tfw you want to be an oldfag but you missed your chance by 2010 when you decided not to browse and now you are like the other ones that came by 2013

There's a lot of people talking about missing good tripfags.
Is this one of those situations where any new trip wouldn't cut it because they a they aren't one of the old boys or would a new tripfag who is knowledgeable and looks to promote discussion be welcome?

I miss the times before /metal/ general when people started considerably many threads about Mastodon, Electric Wizard etc. Nowadays it almost like no one here listens to metal and the generals are filled with childish modern death metal.

I was here from 2011 to 2013, maybe 2014.

I'm an oldfag (2016). I remember all the hype of TLOP. I rember Jason Aldean. I remember unty's breakdowns. I remember that Sharethreads were numbered. If you like the constantly-shilled crap that gets spammed on here, or are a spammer yourself, then yes.
>>
>>70624211
I mostly lurk, and occasionally post in chart/share threads. I don't spam memes. I just want to find new music, and if you ignore memes, /mu/ and the charts page you have on the wiki have been of great help. I know that it may have been better in the past, a more close knit community, but I'm still glad I come here.
>>
been here since 2012. wish i could leave. share threads are a joke now. feels bad.

>Lazare
> he does nothing but post on /mu/
> he doesn't even like most music

Why are you even here? You don't contribute productively or positively here. If you at least debated or intended on having conversations that were constructive about music, and not just prejudiced against different forms of music and lifestyles, people would actually like you, online and in person.

It's not even bothersome that you only like synth pop - plenty of tripfags focus mainly on one or two genres, but at least they are passionate about those genres and know their shit about it. You're just an ignorant kid.

But telling you this is as much use as trying to get blood from a stone since you lack the intelligence to construct formal sentences without acting like a fucking idiot.

I'm mad that people as ignorant as you - obviously including yourself - can be so ignorant and arrogant.
