Let's have a "Punk and friends" thread: the rules are simple, post things related to punk (thus, emo, hardcore, post-punk, post-hardcore, things on the ever so thinline between punk and metal and related punk offshoots are allowed).

Let's start the thread with some emo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUm7YxS6CH4

Picture not all that related.
>>
Posting some random songs:

>Richard Hell:
heard his name but never heard him, funny that it's such a blues inspired song.

>Blonde Redhead: never heard these guys as well (but had heard the name), a bit too random to my taste, the bass and drums are groovy doe.

>The Pop Group:
these are obvious The Clash knockoffs holy shit. Song is p good but can't look away from that fact.
>Amebix:
isn't this the first crust band, sounds a bit like early thrash metal I guess?
>time advances
Holy shit this guy sounds a bit like Dave Mustaine with more throat ache.

>Jawbreaker:
the only thing I know about this band is that they got branded as sellouts and never broke through. Sounds like emo/post hc that keeps it's root very close to original 'punk' sound. Ow shit there's the poppy chorus. Like this.

>Knapsack:
know the name, not the story. Sounds emo but with more pop-punk than Jawsbreaker. Pretty down tempo, not really my taste. I mean, their music sounds like stuff you create when you're bored out of your mind (no offense meant).

>Planes mistaken for Stars:
haven't heard of these guys. Holy shit a cello/ bowed upright. Like the drumbeat. And the liquor shots. This is pretty good.

not super big into hardcore made after like '83 because pure hardcore got more formulaic and the albums kinda become this wall of noise attacking you all the time and I kind of get tired that after some time. But these guys have some fucking killer riffs. I feel the emotion man.

Do you know about Adventures and Lilith?
Adventures is like Code Orange - one guitarist + 1 other guitarist and a singing keyboard player. They're emo/90's indie ish. Reba is the lead singer in this project

Lilith is folky stuff. The keyboard player is the lead singer in this one. Their album is not bandcamp anymore but can be found on this guys youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXU5FSa21zE

Someone rec some bands like Descendents, Bad Religion, NOFX, etc preferably from around that era?
>>
>>70611928
Reagan Youth, Adolescents and Rich Kids On LSD are the only others not-quite-hardcore-but-not-really-punk-rock either bands from around that time that spring to mind at the moment. Rich Kids On LSD is like proto Lagwagon/NOFX, Adoscelents is a bit like the DESCENDENTS and Reagan Youth is just hardcore but they aren't as abrasive as most bands from that era and have some funny shit too

Old fallen punker here, who are some contemporary punk bands that aren't boring or super derivative?

I've heard Joyce Manor and PUP and they're ok but not really mind blowing. Sheer Mag is my favorite I've heard thus far:

>>
>>70614214
Not that guy, but I go to gigs alone all the time. Sometimes people talk to me. Mostly not. It's just awkward when they start late (like every fucking time) and your sitting around doing jackshit.
>>
>>70613127
Shock Troops is the best Oi album ever imho. So I'll vote Cock Sparrer
>>
>>70614261
Did you hear the PUP s/t? It's way better than their second album.

I'd say Brutus (that I linked in the first post) is pretty good, but they are so cross-over that it's hard to describe their genre between hardcore, punk and post-metal. (I think it's crazy no-one has ever responded to anything by them here on /mu/, whilst they are probably the freshest thing I know that's happening in music right now).

FIDLAR, maybe? It's surfy stuff, but I think there hasn't been a lot like them.

I hear a lot of things about Jeff Rosenstock but never took the time to check his discography too much.

JANK if you like poppy emo. Their ep is better than the full length (sadly they are dead already).

Sheer Mag is cool, like the souly vibe.

I think the hottest punk scenes here in Belgium are garage stuff and noisy stuff so if you like that kinda stuff look for some off those tags around the internet. I think the noisy stuff is just domestic though.

Sheer mag is more of a blues rock throwback with a bit of a punk aesthetic, so your mileage may vary with this rec.

The brave little abacus is anything but derivative or boring. They might be a bit too... much for your tastes, what with the Spongebob singer and the somewhat unconventional usage of synths and trumpets
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxL0WPeVc-g

Try one of the middle albums of Cloud Nothings while your at it, Attack on Memory or Here and Nowhere Else. (not their first one, which was more of a demo with how rough around the edges it was, or their last one, which is a bit too polished)

I have a few 7" records. Nothing that I'd expect anyone to recognize.

Also got this Spazz 12". If you don't know who Spazz is then you really need to get your shit together.

this stuff looks pretty old, where ya from?
I'm not the biggest vinyl collector but tend to buy some music from stuff I see live, but normally go cd, so I can listen to it in my mom's car.

I'm from Knoxville. Not the best place to be, musically. I usually have to travel to see a good show.
The 7" ones are pretty old but the Spazz record is just a repress (sounds good as ever though).
I don't necessarily collect. Mostly, I just buy things that I like to listen to or have influenced me in some way.
My friends have a venue out of their basement so I try to seize the opportunity to buy merch at shows where I'm seeing local/touring bands that i wouldn't ordinarily get to see or even hear of.

Pic related USA shirt I got from Life Crisis on their reunion tour in 2006

Video games. The kind you play gaslighting and participating in psychological warfare on someone here disguising trolling as inspiration. Sometimes I wonder how much of the truth you all have been informed of unless you're just trying to protect someone else or cover your asses.

>I haven't really listened to The Wonder Years

crazy, the wonder years [pre greatest generation] are one the best pop punk bands i've heard.

This song is about touring the UK btw:

Thanks for reminding me why I don't like poppunk.
>>
>>70621091
Yeah, apparently they're one of the "essential pop punk bands of the 2000s". I'll get round to listening to them at sometime in the next week if I can be bothered.
