i was looking on sweetwater for something but i guess i won't be able to buy from them since they don't have anything that fits that description. should i try to buy something at one of my kinda crappy local shops? they wouldn't know anything about setting up anyways. any other online places?

so guitars with trems get out of tune easy unless they're a floyd rose as i understand. if i take off the tremolo bar is that still true though? also what about low tunings? i saw a vid by a guy on how to drop tune a floyd rose and he had to tape pennies together and put them in the back of the guitar where a bunch of springs were

pardon the term but are you a cuck? why would i try to cozy up to a salesman who acted rude as fuck?
>>
>>70582224
Taking out the bar still isn't enough. You would have to effectively hardtail the guitar; i.e. lower the bridge to be flush with the body (so no space between the bottom of the bridge and guitar body). The thing with the pennies is so the bridge doesn't pull back. That's still a half measure though - if the bar were used at this point it could only make the bridge go one way, unless the other side of the trem bar too was blocked (usually with change, wood, etc.)
>>
>>70582310
i hate trems so much. never once have i felt the urge to use one, NEVER ONCE! not even when i was just starting out!
>>
>>70582224
Forgot to add when doing this, you don't need to use all 5 springs (you can, but it'd be redundant as 3 springs is adequate). Also, the two screws pulling the bridge bar toward the guitar neck heel (mind you this is all in the back cavity) should be as screwed as tightly and as close as possible to the neck heel.

Only certain types of music really benefit from pedals(more so its the genres typical guitar sound), most music you can play without them. Pedals are just fun sometimes, but they can really be distracting at the same time. Im assuiming your amp has a dirty channel, clean and distorted sounds will be good enough for just about everything.

http://www.schecterguitars.com/pickups/single-coil-pickups/monsterton-pt/monstertone-pt-bridge-914-detail

Schecter custom shop just relaunched their pickups.

Before they made guitars they made the best pick up replacements back in the 80s. They became collectors stuff after they got bought and started with guitar making.

The I like the Pasadena's ALOT. Great blues clean sound.

The one I linked are nice for what you are looking for, it has more output to give it a blues sound but also slide up into country territory.

They also make a humbucker that is stacked to fit a single coil slot. You could buy a push/pull volume and then tap the stacked humbucker for the classic tele sound or use the full thing to make your guitar more versatile.

Just a thought.

Sweetwater is by far my favorite online retailer. Any time I've made a big purchase they've called me to confirm and are really upfront about what your buying and answer any questions you have. I live in Illinois so it's usually next day shipping for free. I've made similar big purchase from other retailers. Musicians friend is by far the worst. I got the wrong pickups, then the ones I ordered went on backorder and it took a month and a half for a refund. Guitar center is decent but they always try to rip you off if you go in person. Buy local or Sweetwater.

The only option out there that looks solid is this thing from roland thats really ugly. You can get a full setup for about $700 with a synth module, i think the pickup alone is around $200. I looked at it almost a year ago and it seemed alright, but not good enough for what i wanted to do. I just started learning to play keyboards, cheaper and exactly what i needed. And having the challenge of learning an instrument again was nice.

>stop by local music store
>tell my experiences to the workers
>they help me pick out and test their tube amps

But then
>return a month later
>different workers
>wont drop prices on anything
>everything is 20% higher than online or the GC/SamAsh
>strings are buy 1 get 1 free or half off, base price is more than double that of competitors
>cost $2 more per pack when its said and done

Just have to go to different places and shop around before dumping the cash. I can see a little markup but damn, thats just bad business when I can drive 5 minutes and get the exact same guitar or amp for cheaper the same day.

Hey you great people, I've been thinking a lot about this recently while listening to my favourite blues artists, like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix... You know them all. I don't have to tell you
So what I was thinking about: is blues dead? I do agree there are some great blues artists, like John Mayer. But never again something like Hendrix existed. Someone who can play the blues and people still like whether they love blues or not.
I play Blues myself. I love it. It is really satisfying. I'm a teenager and that's my problem. (don't start with the "Wrong generation" shit) if I wanted to start a band to just play blues I will not find anyone! All these musicians want to play metal and stuff like this. Don't get me wrong, I really like metal and like to play it too. But blues is really something special and I think modern blues artist lost the feeling of the past.
What happened to Blues?
P.S. I'm on my mobile phone and am sorry if the post is unstructured or full of mistakes
Happy Guitar playing anyone!

The problem I have with blues is amateur blues bands who think they're great. Half-hour guitar solos of relentless unimaginative pentatonic drudgery are not really creative. The only person who really gets off on it is the guy playing the solo, even the other band members must get bored of it.

Plus the lyrics always tend to be woah, my baby done left me, I'm so lonely woah baby baby, guitar solo. And there's just no surprises in it any more, three chord tricks and blues scales all the way.

>>70583111
The big advantage of the Shawbucker is that it works brilliantly alongside single coil pickups. It's low output for a humbucker but that works in a Strat because you don't have that massive jump in output when you move to the bridge pickup. It's not wax potted so it's got a really nice open airy sound and tight bass response. Easily my favourite humbucker but then I'm not a fan of massive amounts of gain.

I've only bought Fenders. My first ever proper guitar was an E-series Squier that I bought in 1986 ... then gave away to my brother. Probably worth a shitload of cash now.

you've never played a nice guitar in a nice amp anon.

The squires and and epiphones and all that other garbage gets plugged in to an amp that is also garbage and it always puts out the same overwound muddy always distorted shit sound.

You buy a nice amp and plug those guitars in and their true shit is reavealed. But you plug in A US strat or a Gibson ES-335 and you can actually hear the guitar differences and you can hear the actual noise the guitar is making and its a completely better experience.

I suppose a peasant wouldn't know that.

Even Chapman that fucking pleb can tell blindfolded.

>"All three arose from the human experience of anguish and confusion stemming from the Absurd: the apparent meaninglessness in a world in which humans, nevertheless, are so compelled to find or create meaning. The three schools of thought diverge from there. Existentialists have generally advocated the individual's construction of his or her own meaning in life as well as the free will of the individual. Nihilists, on the contrary, contend that "it is futile to seek or to affirm meaning where none can be found." Absurdists, following Camus's formulation, hesitantly allow the possibility for some meaning or value in life, but are neither as certain as existentialists are about the value of one's own constructed meaning nor as nihilists are about the total inability to create meaning."
Existentialism.

D'Addario EXL148? What tuning are you in? If it's C# or lower you most likely just need to change to a wound third to solve the problem.

>epiphones

Those aren't just low budget Gibsons you know right? They have more signature models than copies and have been played by numerous big name acts.

Squire's not so much. But if you want to put down 5 grand on a guitar, amp and head by all means.
>>
>>70583340
>The squires and and epiphones and all that other garbage gets plugged in to an amp that is also garbage and it always puts out the same overwound muddy always distorted shit sound.

I dont have entry level shit. I agree, a squite in a marshall hd100 sounds like lukewarm shit.

>You buy a nice amp and plug those guitars in and their true shit is reavealed. But you plug in A US strat or a Gibson ES-335 and you can actually hear the guitar differences and you can hear the actual noise the guitar is making and its a completely better experience.

And whats a nice amp to you the gear snob? Modded classic 30? Nope cost too little to be any good. Same for a bugera with some upgraded parts. For me part of the fun is buying affordable gear and doing some mods to improve it.

>I suppose a peasant wouldn't know that.

Dont have to spend a fortune to sound gold. Dont need a bunch of fancy processors and effects. A tube amp with sone reverb with a solid built guitar with some hotrodded pickups and its good. You will sound bad no matter what you use if you have a bad attitude and an inflated ego. Tone is 90% in the fingertips and no other way about it.

Plus if I gigged with a guitar that cost more than $200 some jackass would steal it first chance, or break it because they are butthurt snobs.

High end Epis are actually pretty good guitars like MiM fenders.

I've had enough experience with MiM Fenders to know that they have problems.

Gibson had a $3000 Tom Delonge ES-335 (amazing guitar btw). Obviously nobody who likes Blink 182 has $3000 to spend on guitars. When they put it in the epiphone line up it sold great because $500 is easier to find. It still has the Gibson pick up too I doubt the wood is dead, the construction is as clean, as the real deal.

The artists usually only play Epiphone because they get a cut from sales. Who is going to buy a guitar the artist doesn't play.

Tom Delonge played a Fender strat for several years but he actually recorded with a Les Paul, and he actually played Custom Shop prototypes fender gave him. He only brings out the epiphones and MiM strats to give away to fans.

Schecter Diamond series and the artist series from Epi and Fender are IMO the only cheap guitars worth buying because they have American / custom shop parts on them and are only assembled in asia/mexico .

They don't really go "out of tune", but sometimes if the nut is not properly lubricated or isn't cut wide enough to accommodate the string, they can get pulled flat or sharp when you use the bar. Bending the string will usually return it to pitch. Some people deal with this problem by setting it up so that the guitar is in tune AFTER you use the bar and bending regularly puts it out of tune. When quick dip with the bar brings it back to pitch.

I don't like that method personally. I have plenty of trem equipped guitars and I just hard tail them. I never use the bastards. If you're having tuning issues, try lubing the nut, and obviously set your trem up properly.

>>
>>70585617
The general rule is that effects that alter volume or gain (distortion, EQ, compression) go before the preamp and time-based modulation effects (chorus, flange, phase) go after with delay and reverb last in the chain.

As for assigning outputs, you do that in the control software for your sound card. And you'd most probably need a second instance of Guitar Rig to handle effects after the preamp.

Good luck coping with all that latency.

Thanks for the genuine advice, any recommendations for an entry fender for the low that's not a squire. I've been really feeling this Fender Duo Sonic in my nearest guitar center but curious any way to install a tremolo bar?

1. Try new strings and a good setup. If that doesnt help.
2. Try a few different guitars. Maybe that fender is right for you, maybe you prefer a different profile.

>>70585879
Good shit. Yep. Its a good idea to keep the nicer stuff safe at home and have a couple hotrodded workhorses.

Worse case you have to replace a $400 guitar and $100 pickups. Not the greatest but beats tracking down an 80s guitar or dumping the cash into another upper tier guitar.

Im a 7 wanker so Im limited to some choices but I found a good beter to gig with, if I feel fancy take the saber out. Prefer my tele but hate to lose or damge it as there arent many 7 teles made. Bad enough my old roomates' dog ate the switch cap.

never played a fender duo sonic before but it seems like a good first fender. reasonable price.
personally, i'd get a tele and put a humbucker on it
>>
>>70585993
I started off on 14 gauge strings because I honestly thought thicker string meant smoother moving. I played with them for months and got really used to the heavy feel, but realized I can't bend comfortably. Plus literally bled profusiously at first. Then I dropped down to a step, and now I'm trying 9's, they make things WAY easier, honestly too easy where my high E keeps popping. I'm gonna get some 10s this week, maybe a higher gauge will help.
>good set up
good joke, poorfag here, i get a nice tone with my shit acoustic amp and pedal, I will be buy much more pedals soon hopefully! sucks being a teen at time though when it comes to money.
>>
>>70586015

You can gig it, but make sure you won't cry too much if some asshole throws his beer at your band and fucks up the finish on it. Also it'll wear out from heavy live playing too so.
>>

>They're still on though because i can't be assed to swap

>>
>>70585674
>>70585679
Thanks. Whether or not I'll be using amp sims depends on the Amp I get when I go to rehearsal, but sometimes you get something nice so I was thinking of ways to have both options in the same package. I was thinking of using the stereo splitter and 100% panning to each side to achieve this, so it'd be like:
Guitar > Soundcard L input > FX (compression, overdrive, etc.) > Soundcard L Output > Amp Input

Amp Loop Send > Soundcard R Input > FX(Delay, Reverb, etc.) > Soundcard R Output > Amp Loop Return

Anyone else here very hot and cold with guitar?

Lately it seems like about 2 or 3 days out of the week I'm completely uninterested in playing guitar but then I come back and get way into it for a few days and then I lose interest for a bit again
>>
>>70586015
I say $4-600. Whatever you can settle with and be comfortable. You can take whatever you want, but you have to remain vigilant and keep your shit secure. Youll be the one replacing it all.

Just read up the thread for a few reasons why its better to leave the expensive gear at home. Not saying it will happen everytime but could happen anytime.
>>
>>70586078
Is that... A fucking sticker?

Dropped.
>>
>>70586015
depends, are you comfortable with the chance of your guitar being stolen or fucked with?
>>
>>70586060
I meant setup as in string height adjustment and bridge/saddle tweaks. I started off poor. Still am, if you consider the opinions here. But I digress, setting the action to a tolerable height is what you seem to need. The 9s may be too low. 10s are what I prefer.
>>
>>70586082
that's normal. some days i just don't have the time or would rather play some playstation.
i enjoy taking little breaks.
>>
>>70586078
Is that literal shit smeared all over your guitar?
>>
>>70586115
If I'm being honest I've fixed my set up quite comfortable for how I started. 14s and the action was literally a fucking inch and a half high. I craved death. I'm cooling now tho.
>>
>>70586015

>>70586514
Any reccomendations/exmaples of eq for a good jangly sound?
>>
>>70586555
Auto Wah can be set at a certain rate like a phaser or chorus and stays there so you don't have to go up/down and you can also set it at a humanly impossible speed
>>
>>70586555
one is for normal people and the other for people that lost their legs
>>
>>70586555
clean, treble and playing from the bridge

remember reading jangly johnny marr used heavy chorus too

That sounds awesome, if you play it fast enough it almost sounds almost identical to a tremolo pedal

Johnny Marr is my idol, personally trying to go close to his tone, hopefully some EQ modifying will help. Thanks.

Got one of those cheap $9 cables from reverb and it only works when the jack isn't fully plugged into my guitar. I don't get any sound unless it's sticking out of the guitar by like 1/16th of an inch, regardless of which end is in the guitar and which end is in the amp. Is this common for cheap cables? I have other cables that work when fully plugged in, so I'm pretty sure there isn't anything wrong with the guitar.
