>You're forced to play your most difficult album in your library for your entire family
How do they react?
I d-don't know ;_;
>>70553746
They don't like any music I play, they actively and immediately hate anything if they find out I like it. Same as my friends. Fuck the lot of 'em.
>>70553876
pretty much this
>>70553746
>dad takes off his hearing impairment stuff from his ears
>mum clenches teeth & smiles politely
>sis sighs and tells me to get a job
>>70553765
(almost exactly) This
>>70553746
>most difficult
what do you mean with difficult?
>>70554246
stop being difficult and answer the question
Ow
i dunno what my most difficult album even is
hours of drone?
distilled onkyo?
post-industrial post-grind?
harsh wall EAI?
chances are, they'd just leave in one minute and then ask me if i'm crazy when they return after it's over
freeshrugs.jpg
>>70553876
Same. I got into noise for a bit (about a fucking decade ago, by the way), and now my whole family continues to give me shit every time they bring up music in conversation and ask me what I've been listening to lately. Over ten goddamn years since that time in my life, and they continue to bust my balls. Anytime I try to introduce them to something now it's like:
>lol it's not noise is it?
>hope this isn't that noise stuff
>please play something normal, please play something normal, hahaha just kidding lol
And then when I tell them it's not noise because that was 10 fucking years ago and people change, then play something I like now (like they asked me to do), there's the unending cavalcade of dumbass opinions:
>this isn't music, it's too angry to be music
>this doesn't have very upbeat lyrics..
>and you heard this on the radio?
>but you liked good music when you were little, remember listening to stevie nicks records with your mom?
>could you try to play something normal for once?
>we hoped you would play something we all could enjoy
All this shit when they're the ones who asked what kind of music I'm listening to now.
>>70554357
Cmon man. Thats like the musical equivalent of shitting on a square and calling it art.
>>70554246
As in "hardest to get into", so the album in your library that would be most displeasing to people who aren't into it. Genres like noise rock, metalcore, grindcore, power electronics, etc.
>>70554458
I support you friend.
I played some datach'i for my mom once, she didn't really get it but her ears didn't bleed
It's between Lye by Mistake and I am a Burning Lake of Orchids for me. I got shit for Gentle Giant, so I can't imagine either going over very well with them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBNHqP_ODd8
Maybe I don't listen to "difficult" enough music, but I certainly share it with my family. We all play music for each other. I listen to mostly math rock, post-rock, psychedelia, etc. Usually the way it goes down is I play something like that and ask my parents "What kind of music do you think this is?" The most common answer is my mom saying "sounds like Rush."
Generally my parents don't like the music unless I specifically picked something I thought they would like. They did enjoy Tame Impala for example.
>>70554716
> got shit for Gentle Giant
I feel the fuck out of your pain, anon.
>>70554458
The Stevie nicks thing really hit close to home, know what its like man
>>70554479
It helps me concentrate
>>70554716
>I am a Burning Lake of Orchids
If you play this one kind of quiet they might just think it's genereic rock.
Progressively redpilling my dad on heavier and heavier music and different kinds of metal. Mentioned that he liked a Slipknot song he heard on the radio a few weeks ago, I now almost have him listening to Infant Annihilator without complaint.
I have no idea how they would react to any of my music because I stopped talked to them about music once I moved out.
My mom hates everything that isn't the prog rock she snorted coke to in college, and my dad hates everything that isn't 60's protest music. My younger brother exclusively listens to the weirdest bullshit on the planet (like, "a 47-minute-long recording of two blenders being knocked around on a folding plastic table by a hockey stick, while somebody aggressively chants curse words in broken German" weird), and claims that all music that isn't what he listens to is "too mainstream to be any good." I'm convinced he posts here.
>>70554871
>Shrieked vocals over very heavy synth
Yeah, I don't think so.
>>70554951
I mean REALLY quietly
Played this for some friends once, they lasted about 4 minutes
>When does the melody come in?
>Are there even lyrics?
>I could have made this
>>70554568
I see.
Eleh is probably the most difficult in my library right now
>>70554458
so why do you keep doing it you enormous fag
>>70554975
Can't tell if I despise or quite like this
>>70554983
I have to know anon, when would/do you listen to this? I'm not one to only listen to certain music at certain times, but I can't imagine waking up and thinking "let's listen to this"
>>70555041
>when would/do you listen to this
when I'm tired of listening to common genres / music
>>70553765
I've played this for my family. Needless to say they didn't like it.
what's that shitty /mu/ meme genre that's just the same tone repeatedly played
id play that
>>70555131
uh idk, onkyo? EAI? lowercase? nothing really comes to mind
>>70555041
not that anon, but Eleh is great for just losing focus to. I got into his stuff by accidentally leaving a song on in the background and forgetting it was even playing for 20 minutes, and when I finally saw it was playing in a tab in the background it made me realize much more time had passed than I would have thought.
this can only end poorly
>>70554458
>it's too angry to be music
that's a new one
>>70555171
I think he means drone but has no taste
I played this for my dad, he liked it more than I did.
>1 track
>60 minutes
>can't listen to it directly and continuously becuase it'll rape your ears
>can't keep it the background because it will unnerve you and give you a headache
>>70554983
>Radiant Intervals
Fucking love this album. Gives me a special sort of sonic feeling.
Probably throw on one of my Skin Crime CDs
>>70554988
See, I WOULD just lie and play something closer to their circles of music (when THEY ask ME to play for them what I'm listening to lately), but I can't win in that arena either. If I pick something I'm fairly certain they'll probably enjoy (y'know, something "normal") they say shit like:
>oh come on, you don't listen to this kind of music
>we know you listen to stuff that's way weirder than this
>dude don't lie, play something you actually listen to
>so when does the noise start so I can cover my ears? haha just kidding lol but really when?
And when I relent and play something I've recently enjoyed, they turn around and do the same bullshit I complained about in my first post. The last time I politely declined (and I only said, "I'm not really listening to anything new right now, actually," by the way) I apparently ruined everyone's Thanksgiving, and my mom ambushed me in the kitchen to tell me I was being rude to the whole family.
I can't win, anon. I guess it's easier to just let the whole family spend 40 minutes a few times a year openly mocking me, than it is to be blamed by the whole family for ruining holidays.
>>70555343
Whoops forgot pic
>>70555358
>forgot pic
Like that was a bad thing
>>70555256
Yep. They think pretty much anything that uses a minor key is "angry," through, so take that commentary with a grain of salt
>>70554568
>metalcore
>>70555356
Kek sounds like its fun to be rude to your relatives. I wish I could get a reaction like that, desu. If you ask me, you'd do well to push it even more
>>70555398
Christ, that manages to be even worse
>>70554943
>a 47-minute-long recording of two blenders being knocked around on a folding plastic table by a hockey stick, while somebody aggressively chants curse words in broken German
>claims that all music that isn't what he listens to is "too mainstream to be any good."
lolwut
>the most generic noise ever
>objects banging around + foreign language
>not mainstream as fuck
your little brother he has absolute shit taste
tell him to post here so we can make fun of him
>>70554943
>My younger brother exclusively listens to the weirdest bullshit on the planet (like, "a 47-minute-long recording of two blenders being knocked around on a folding plastic table by a hockey stick, while somebody aggressively chants curse words in broken German" weird), and claims that all music that isn't what he listens to is "too mainstream to be any good." I'm convinced he posts here.
fucking kek, you should talk about music with your brother more often anon
Mine is Kylie Minoise - You Suffer
They slowly got used to my music, they don't like it, but simply don't care anymore
>>70554458
>playing inaccessible music for your normie family
That's where you went wrong. Also it sounds as if your family is dumb as fuck
>>70555356
Jesus your family sounds like a group of straight-up morons
>>70554943
>Doesn't post about their own music taste
>Insults other peoples taste
Looks like you're an opinionated pleb mate
"Turn that off."
My mom and grandma wouldn't like it but they are both pretty open-minded so they would see the merit in it. Particularly my mom.
>>70554458
iktfb
>listens to sunn once
>okay but you listen to drone music
>apparently all my music opinions are discarded now
>fucking normies reeeee
>>70554458
why would you keep trying to play music for them?
>>70553746
Some Free Jazz probably. I feel like they can probably geet the apeal in most music but I dought there's much apeal to find here.
>>70555764
>ansinthe
what the fuck is that on the cover
>>70555256
My dad legitimately kept me and my sister from listening to metal and hip hop until I was 15 because of this exact reason.
>>70553746
I don't know, what do you even mean by difficult? Kinda hard to answer if I can't even figure out what album it would be.
>>70555764
link?
not to harsh, but if they have to listen to it in one sitting it's pretty hard
>be me sat in bedroom
>listening to pic related
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L9kSQbxx7M
>mom walks in
there were no words, just a horrified facial reaction expressing a mixture of confusion and disappointment

>dude lmoa you listen to Japanese electronic devices?
>>70553746
Yeah I'm totally going to play Buyer's Market to my kids
>>70554568
>>70556029
That doesn't mean anything though since it varies based on person. I'd have a harder time listening to an entire Bieber album than Agoraphobic Nosebleed, does that mean the pop star makes more difficult music?
The only thing I can think of is something that literally nobody can listen to due to physical demands humans can't meet, like longplayer. But then that's not really an album so I'm not sure it counts.
>this is just noise
Im sure this board will give me shit for having this as my most difficult album, but in terms of how my family would react, my mom would honestly probably like it but no one else would
>>70556207
my mom is completely okay with merzbow but she hates post-rock
>>70556122
Oh yeah dude. Everyone I know turns Justin Bieber off immediately, but I put on some Lightning Bolt or Melt Banana and everyone immediately digs it.
Not once have I ever been afraid to play noise music for anyone in my life because it's so likeable and easy on the ear. :^)
>>70554943
>a 47-minute-long recording of two blenders being knocked around on a folding plastic table by a hockey stick, while somebody aggressively chants curse words in broken German
Sounds like you're the pleb, anon-kun
>>70555764
That's cool that they're open minded about music. My mum doesn't really seem to like music at all really and hates anything even slightly heavy or angry sounding. When I was around eight I wanted her to take me to the cd shop in the mall and she wouldn't let me go in cause they were playing slipknot.
>>70556223
I'm just saying "hardest to get into" is an obviously flawed metric that doesn't actually point to anything in particular. If you listen to Lightning Bolt you probably didn't find them difficult to get into at all because their music appeals to you. People like different things, this isn't news.
>>70555356
learn to stand up for yourself nigga
if you feel like they are mocking you you should tell them
>>70556336
you're really splitting hairs here. everyone knows (at least vaguely) the qualities of conventionally 'pleasant' music in the context of western culture at least.
>>70554458
your fault for listening to exclusively edgy music
>>70553746
>Dad gets up from sofa
>unplugs amp
>tells me "go to bed"
>>70556336
have you never been in a situation in which you've been asked to play music but you knew everyone around you didn't want to listen to the kind of music you like?
This Thread is about sharing which kind of music you think those kinds of people would like the least, not what you think is the hardest thing for you to have gotten into. Like for instance my dad would not like it if he knew I was into Noise music.
I doubt they'd enjoy it but they wouldn't be surprised either.
>>70556336
I'm not asking what kind of music was hardest for you to get into, I'm asking what kind of music you're into would be considered most unpleasant if you were forced to play it to your family.
>play something that sounds arabic/north-african
>the whole family freaks out and asks if I'm muslim & gonna blow up some school
>'actually it's persian tradition... nevermind'
>plays the beach boys instead
any genuine inoffensive Arabic music will terrorize your family more than any noise or metal, trust me.
>>70556601
uhh maybe if your family are a bunch of backwoods hicks
They'd react quite poorly, I imagine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZATI1FGEfw
>>70553746
my mom drove me to my first noise show
my dad flipped his shit because it was a bad part of the town and didn't want me to get robbed (it wasn't really, he's just a control freak)
My mom doesn't like the music I make and instead of going inside and seeing their son perform, they sat in a car for the 3 of 4 hours of the show.
>>70554943
>a 47-minute-long recording of two blenders being knocked around on a folding plastic table by a hockey stick, while somebody aggressively chants curse words in broken German
Kek, he probably browses here
for me it's gotta be this, I don't have that much but I can't imagine anyone in my family wanting to listen to this more than a few seconds
>>70557158
it's a shitty idea, it's illegal and you're a pseudointellectual fuck
>>70557277
of which of these three obvious statements are you inquiring?
>>70557277
theres nothing to learn in that kind of pain and suffering. Its just senseless.
"STOP! STOP! STOP!" wheres the lesson
>>70557158
nah it's dumb, controversy for the sake of controversy is pointless and only serves to offend
kek
>playing music for your family
People don't actually do this do they?
>>70557377
the album is cp. its only purpose is to get off rapists (you're comparing it to the sotos album because that too was a masturbatory aid)
it has zero value as an art statement. you'd have to be seriously thick-skulled to think you gain some deep understanding of the world from an album of children getting raped
It's gonna be a bit difficult.
>>70557377
so what about that makes it "incredibly fascinating and important"? The fact that child rape is a thing that exists? If I made a record about how I don't particularly like mayo would that be fascinating and important because it's based on a real life occurrence? Presumably not, so is its value in its controversy, and if so why does it need to be music in the first place? Why should something be considered valuable just for being offensive?
>>70557377
no lesson, no appeal unless youre a piece of shit. Some of my favorite music is horrorcore but that has an entertainment value. People actually suffering is just disgusting. Children of god is a great movie but strapping a go pro onto a child soldier would be stupid and exploitive.
>>70557158
Dude..... Did you listen to the recording..... Absolutely sickening
>they cry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmwDaFdVd8U
>>70557557
It's fascinating not because of the theme, but because of the statement that defies the common conception of art.
>>70557738
By your logic cp is art.
>>70557738
I don't understand how it defies any conceptions of art
The "anything can be art guise!!!" argument has been made in much less edgy and unnecessary ways (Duchamp) for over a century. If anything the concept is worn out.
it’s a tie between really raw or dissonant black metal, tons of crunchy ass noise, and some power electronics
they wouldn’t like it and they wouldn’t identify it as music
>>70555250
it gets fairly accesible 30 or 20 minutes in when it reaches to Koko-esque part
>>70555874
the black plague it looks it
>>70555828
Okay but you listen to drone music
>>70557793
where is the line between normal music and field recordings of cp?
What if I'm a filthy Pleb and I don't really own any 'difficult' albums?
>>70558046
Then why are you in this thread, nigga?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5u9HQ1J8s
>>70558027
the line between those two is children actually getting raped in the making of it. are you dense?
>>70557219
this album is worth the tinnitus
>>70557688
link? or album name?
>>70558135
Stop. It's not worth it.
>>70558273
you're probably right.
seems like one of those things that i'd look into out of morbid curiosity and then when i'd actually watch it it'd actually fuck me up and disturb me.
doesn't denote its quality as art though
>>70556934
wow i'm sorry anon. your parents are shitheads. my mom loves watching me perform
>>70553746
It would probably be Trout Mask Replica.
Mom would call it "get-the-f***-out-of-my-house music," a label usually reserved for things that would fall under the category of "Grey's Anatomy episode sountrack." and walk off to do something else. Dad would try to appreciate it but probably give up somewhere around Bills Corpse.
>>70553746
My dad loved the pod when i introduced him.
>>70556934
well I mean it might be a little embarrassing for a noise musicians parent's to be standing in the crowd watching the show. like imagine if you went to see merzbow and his parents were in the far back.
though it's a little shitty of your parents to just sit in the car for the entirety, just sorta rubs it in.
also link to bandcamp/soundcloud/whatever?
>>70557793
Some of it probably is, honestly. Art is literally just "things that people genuinely consider to be art," I'm sure there's some fucktard somewhere that honestly believes they're making art when they ruin lives. It doesn't excuse it but nobody ever said art had to be excusable.
>>70558631
do you make anything?
>>70558135
Its called pseudoscorpion. I didn't think it existed. Someone posted the album art, someone posted an archived post about it, then someone posted the first song on vocaroo.
It was child porn recordings.
All comments regarding it in this thread were deleted.
Trust me man, this is something you don't need. It is easily the most disturbing, unsettling thing I have ever experienced.
>>70555356
I would 'ruin' every holiday from there on out, these people sounds insufferable.
>>70558671
Yes.
That one awful vaporwave album with the picture of the dude from Gundam on the cover
>>70558757
This a grifter type thing?
>>70556222
Post rock and liturgy make my mom anxious evidently
Pic related or something Intolitarian or noisy or grindy would be my pick
