Good song. Starts weak and has political bullshit written on it, but the chorus is great and Damon's singing does not disappoint.

This sounds so interesting... fuck it's great

They went full experimental

KEK THAT ENDING

The first 5 seconds before Bejamin starts singing is the best part

Its good but another example of all popular media pushing a strong left narrative on everything which I'm sick of. Hopefully this album isn't full of this leftist rubbish.

mfw Trumpflakes are triggered AF by this track

It's a decent track too.
>>
It feels like this was meant to be something akin to "Fire Coming out of the Monkey's Head" but damon and jamie got drunk and decided to put this out first
>>
Do people itt really not realize that the gorillaz have always had left-sided views. Like most musicians you probably like.
The anon in this thread said it best. Most artist are lefty by default.
>>
Literally slam poetry
>>
It's not very good to me.
Experimental pop is good, but only if the experiment pays off.
This is just some britbong complaining about how the US runs their country.

Masturbatory music for Trump haterz.
>>
I love Benjamin's voice on here, but something about Damon's seems out of place.
>>
I enjoyed it. Also don't understand where the anti-Donald Trump part came in. It's more about the historical importance of this event than the man himself.

>People actually complaining because Gorillaz has changed their style and are political

Fucking WHAT?
>>
the music is Gorillaz tier
the songwriting is still Damon tier
why did they even bother with the video
looks like Jamie Hewlett phoned that shit in, if at all

all in all i'd give a Doncamatic/10
>>
I'll have to give it a few listens but my first impression is that it's not great. Really interesting though, so I think I might end up enjoying. The politics are pretty gay though.

There's good political and bad political. This is cheesy, bandwagon, poorly executed political. Their message lost all its meaning in its delivery. If you want god political look at what Roger Waters did with Animals or The Final Cut.

What the fuck is wrong with you people?

I hated Gorillaz last time I tried them, which was like 2 years ago, but I decided to give this a go just cause it's one 4 minute song.
Holy shit this is fucking awful. Monotonous dreary "singing" over a shitty boring snare beat for 271 seconds. Can't believe I just wasted four and a half minutes of my life on this garbage. How the fuck could anyone say this is good? This board is fucking doomed

I was also a bit surprised by this song because the new album was supposed to be a bit faster in rythm overall
>>
>>70468699
It was obvious from the start that this is a (smart, I must admit) move to get people to talk about them again. The song isn't exactly bad in itself, it was probably a bit rushed considering the election was less than 3 months ago.
>>
>>70468841
Trump songs have been popping up ever since the primaries, so this was probably in the production line but got pushed ahead once he got elected
>>
This is boring as fuck
>>
This song will be a grower but will still be detested because muh trump

Second half is really damn good
>>
what are people talking about with this "second half is good" shit

it doesn't get any better
>>
>>70468874
No Trump songs by decent mainstream artist though. Anyway yes, probably Damon thought to write something about walls, then Trump got elected and he and Jamie decided that this was a good opportunity
>>
>>70468996
I mean, if 50% of a country usually doesn't like the elected president
And this election, regardless of who got in, would have the lowest approval ratings entering ever
It would make sense to release an single based on it, especially if you disagreed with it personally as well

Musically this sounds like an interested offbeat song somewhere in the tracklisting, not something you put as the first single off the album. It has that gospel vibe, builds nicely at the end, and mostly revolves around the verses, like he preaching some scripture. However the lyrics come off as unfocussed trendy political rhetoric and culturally sounds tone deaf (especially with the imagery they put in the video).

It comes across as Damon shoving this song out front purely for its trendy political message, instead of show casing his best musically.

smart like who, Trump? Or old men who refuse to give a shit about us or the environment?
>>
>>70472344
I really hope that's the case, but I still believe it could've been better executed no matter what the budget was. A total mess in the background, bad 2D lipsync, not even a complete drawing or two of any of the characters except Murdoc in the very beginning. Considering South Park's first season were made entirely with construction paper about 20 years ago, I don't see how money is the problem here.
>>
>>70472559
2D is actually heavily implied to be a puppet- you can see the strings moving his jaw. don't know what that means, but the lipsync was definitely intentional- they did it that way for a reason, whatever that reason is

it's more of a "doncamatic" video than a "on melancholy hill" one. just a visual

I loved Plastic Beach more than their other albums but this isn't even a song. Damn it. That's precisely the only thing I like about this song, it does have a beat and rhythm, I wish they released an instrumental version
>Random political song
they've always been political
>>
>>70473247
The song's kind of growing on me, and yeah, it's not even really political sounding, but the description of it and shit is going around as an 'anti-trump' song, when I don't hear anything like that in the song, partially because I can't understand half of what the black guy is saying. But I don't get why, aside from trying to get attention and views, it's being called that.

I mean I guess on repeat listens, it's an okay song. But it's a horrible song to return with and I think that's where the hate is coming from. Everybody waited years for something and the first thing we get is a fucking black guy kumbayahing in an elevator to an off tempo beat with no Gorillaz characters to be seen, with only a voice of one muffled in the background chorus. At least is shouldn't be on the album.

Anon, Trump's government is planning to cut finances of the arts right now. Times are a changin anon

its time for Albarn to move past the shamelessly white collaborations of the past, such as those with Del the Funky Homosapien, Dan the Automator, De La Soul, Danger Mouse, Bobby Womack, Little Dragon, and Snoop Dog.

It's time that Albarn let people from more diverse backgrounds into the studio. I know it may be hard for you, clearly a longtime Gorillaz fan, to come to terms with the fact that Albarn may capitulating to societal pressures to work with musicians of color.

But gone are the days of all white alt rap concept albums, that's just how it is now

seriously i think damon albarn might be a cuck

it definitely could be cynical pandering, as the spoken word, along with the lyric writing is easily derivative of that. under the assumption that this won't be on the album, then this is exactly what you think it could be -- venting feelings/thoughts into their music

the songwriting isn't the best thing in the world, but it isn't the worst

First off I'd like to point out how fucking awful this music video is. It's just not good. MTV is fucking dead
Second, this is actually a really really good song. The message is stupid as fuck, but who the fuck listens to vocal tracks lyrics in songs like this? Why would you even bother with trying to understand the words when it's just another track on the song to enjoy with everything else?

Anyways, it's not as good as it could be. Ronda Rousey has proven that you can't come back from something that you haven't done for a long time and try to compete in the big leagues without getting knocked out.
Also, my fellow Trumptards getting triggered over people not agreeing with them are stupid as fuck. I'm going back to listen to the Gorillaz album, where they're actually good

I came here and found pretty mixed opinions, some people loving it and some people hating it, some buttblasted trumptards trying as hard as they can to whine about a political message that can be vaguely relates to trump, but overall actually decent discussions going on. Someone mentioned reddit hating it though so I had to check.

They pretty much unanimously hate it with little dissent. Utter nonsense criticism like too much of the singer, bad vocals from Damon, saying it didn't sound like a Gorillaz song, etc. And when people new to Gorillaz asked for a good example of a Gorillaz song, basically everyone was like "AAAAH CLINT EASTWOOD, DEMON DAYS, PERFECT ALBUMS THAT DEFINE THEIR SOUND." Jesus fuck can you get more basic? Demon Days is a masterful album that is more approachable than Gorillaz or Plastic Beach but Gorillaz offers way more variety and Plastic Beach offers a completely different sound. Fuck those losers, they can go jerk themselves raw about how great the most popular songs of an artist are.

Shit when did I become a /mu/tant

I don't even care about the politics involved. The song just isn't good.

They "feature" a guy who sings for 96% of the song and masturbates himself for the other 4% while playing minimal music, beats, rhythms, or pretty much anything that makes a song great.

Don't tell me their "experimentation" will be taking over the new album, I'll be shitting blood for a week from the ulcers that this great band will cause me.

I have loved everything Gorillaz do.
I myself however am a right winger of some sort and even though I disagree with Damons politics I have still enjoyed his songs.

But this is utter fucking trash. This does not have me hyped for any new shit they plan on releasing...

Dude,I'm right there with you.
The chorus even chants the songtitle, it's about greed and mistrust winning, embodied by American the election (with the "scarecrows from the east" and the "building walls" line)
