Kinda broke the Gorillaz immersion with the cartoon world and all. Without the characters, it just turns into a generic indie band, did they not see that.

Fucking hell, what's with people these days, trump already won, let it go, stop trying to protest the guy is already leaving for the white house, focus on making what you're good at.

I'm confused whether this is meant to an Album single or a stand-lone. I hope this isn't on the album

It's certainly not a very strong single, it's a bit too minimal in it's instrumentation and Benjamin Clementine's baritone doesn't mesh very well or lead. Just past the 3 minute mark the song picks up, so I'm wondering whether it's scraped demo that they quickly re-worked or something thrown together quickly as a single

The Fall had better production than this garbage
>>
Really awful video, I also hate why this was made. The whole Donald Trump thing, I'd understand people''s overaction more if Trump did something really shitty and he was a president for years, but he is not even in the office yet (tomorrow).

Song itself is really trippy. I am not sure if the collobration here works all that well. I respect Benjamin's talent, but I am not sure if this mash up works all that well. It is pretty forgettable overall I'd say. The highlight is really the part where Benjamin stops singing and Gorillaz sets in, again, nothing against Benjamin, but his singing doesn't just work with his vocals, it doesn't mash, it's out of place and it would be better if he was not involved.

Track closing with Spongebob crying, I don't know.

But the entire meaning and intentions of the song really put a bad taste in my mouth. Trump is not even in the office yet, when there were songs about Bush we all knew what he has done, the rage made sense, towards Trump the anger is mostly based off of him just acting rude mostly.
>>
none of you would have even thought the song was about trump if they didn't say it was. I don't get how this effects your enjoyment of the song.
>>
The backing on the video is like some retard just started going through random youtube videos
>>
pretty disappointing to be brutally honest
>>
i like gorillaz
the lad has a good voice
the song was forgettable and boring
the video was a load of shit
>>
>>70462177
I think the whole anti-Trump angle they're going for is to gain relevance
Which is kind of sad considering that Gorillaz aren't that irrelevant in the music world at all
>>
>>70462206
Even without the "political message" the song is still shit. It sounds like something from The Fall.
>>
>>70462228
fucking this. my expectations betrayed me
>>
>>70462206
This song probably isn't even about Trump. There's evidence it was written 7 months ago. They probably just slapped this shitty video together in like an hour just to get attention.

>>
Even Frankie Sinatra, the worst song on Wildflower, is better than this.
>>
>>70462230

The song itself is not new, Albarn singed it to a fan several months ago, but calm down folks, this ain't the main dish yet, just something they slapped together for the trump's inauguration.

The real Gorillaz music video, the one Jamie's been teasing on his instagram, is probably gonna come out soon.

Gotta say 'tho, the song itself is pretty disappointing, Albarn used to nail when it comes to slow tracks, but this is just boring if a somewhat strong but clichê message. My hype is almost gone now.
>>
>>70462296
There's no way they would have known the song would have even been relevant by the time they released it had it specifically been about Trump. I'm not denying it may have be influenced by Trump, but totally about? I doubt it.

the trump meme is forced as fuck
>>70462249
yeah except in demon days the music made up for it and focused on different themes as well
>>70462316
I honestly think that they're just saving up their budget for an animated music video, there's even evidence on Jamie Hewlett's IG that they're working on a proper MV

Plastic Beach has no real political discourse and is a collection of surreal stories about the future of over-indulgences of humanity that leads to indifference and re-shaping the world for conveniences

i wouldn't mind it if the song were actually good but it's not. rushed out to meet inauguration time.

the cool thing about gorillaz is that they are cartoons, so can do fucking whatever they want in terms of subject matter, but no, Damon (or whoever) had to make a baseless political statement with the depth of a fucking puddle.

Lyrics

>Here is our tree
That primitively grows
When we go to bed
Scare crows from the Far a-East
Come to eat its tender fruits
I have thought that the
Best way to protect our tree
Is by building walls
Walls like unicorns in full glory and galore
Even stronger than the walls of Jericho
Be glad then my friend
That in a few
We shall reap abundantly
What we’d always dreamt of havin
Enough of the starvin
It is love
That is the root of all evil
Not our tree
And thank you my friend
For trusting me

Hallelujah Money
Hallelujah Money

How will we know
When the morning comes
We are still humanz.
How will we know?
How will we dream?
How will we love?
How will we know?

Don’t worry my friend
If this be the end
Then so shall it be
Until we say so
Nothing will move
Ah, don’t worry
It is not against our morals
It’s legally tender
Touch my friend
What the whole world, and whole beasts of nations desire: power

Hallelujah Money
Cross the chemtrail sun
Hallelujah Money

It's the same exact tactic that Trump et al use, pure dehumanization. The way some Trump supporters comment when discussing celebrities who voice 'political opinions' (read: anti-trump sentiment) is as if a minstrel stepped out of line; that celebrities shouldn't have the right of voicing an opinion, a right that average citizen commentators on celebrities seem to own by default.

Also confusing is this belief that art and politics should be mutually exclusive, even though from its ancient roots in, say, Menippean prose for an earliest example, political commentary and art become more or less synonyms. This points of course to a similar tactic of erasure, whereby thousands of years of the worth of something are destroyed by the power of suggestion.

>>
>>70465264
Well, I mean, he did score a soundtrack for a movie which was entirely for the crisis of environment and was marketing that. It is hard for me to say how much more he does. We don't know much about Trent's life and what he does, maybe he does indeed do do something to help the situation besides this one instance, Trent. We cannot say, he is a private person who reveals his inner demons via his albums but refuses more, which I understand, but your question is a really good one.
>>
I mean, maybe I'm just old, but y'all Trump supporters had to have known this was the path you were choosing. Under Dubya, pretty much 80% of artists, /mu/core or otherwise, released something political.

Being conservative/nationalist/white nationalist--these things are going to put you at odds with the vast majority of the artistic community. It's only going to get more pervasive once Trump takes office.
>>
>>70465350
My sentiment wasn't so much about Trent as it was about this celebrity slacktivism that we see so prevalent. Many celebrities are happy to constantly bitch and moan about how the government doesn't do enough for the poor, but very few actually go out and do something about it themselves (DiCaprio is one of those few).
>>
>>70465264
You know, this is something I think about a lot, and I think of myself as foolish to think artists/celebrities themselves haven't sussed that idea out, but then again I don't know if rather I'm underestimating the blind narcissism and appeals to shallow ideology possible in those types.

It reminds me of how when Wall-E was released on DVD I guess someone realized the emotional impact of the film relied on appeals to conservation of nature in the technological age, so if you look at the back of the DVD there's this blurb about how the packaging of the dvd, a glossy multi-compartment paper fold-out deal, was some large % recyclable material that is biodegradable.

That of course begs the question of, 'OK, but what about the plastic discs?' and 'what about the carbon footprint of the buildings at Disney/Pixar, the celluloid, metal, copper, plastic involved in their HQ, scripting, computing, processing, printing, and distribution?

Has there ever been music about the harmful substances associated with its creation? I mean Vinyl is PVC, one of the most toxic substances on the planet if in a house fire, and at all during its production. Surely music artists who are into mother Earth are aware?

It's pretentious, not good.
>>
>>70465769
How exactly is it pretentious? It's musically sound, the vocals/dialogue work with the instrumental layers, and the lyrics are subtle yet get their point across.

Because most art is made by people who think of the world outside of the lanes conservitards want people to remain in.

Which is not to say that all conservatives are incapable of making art, or of making great art or defying a mediums expectations but on the whole art in a world without liberals would be a lot less expressive and a lot more by the numbers.

There's a reason why the vast majority of artists are lefties

I have a theory about this.

>If this be the end, then so shall it be
>Until we say so, nothing will move
>Ah, don't worry
>It's not against our morals

>Illuminatti shit everywhere.

The Illuninatti's fallen because of Trumps win against Hillary in the election. When he saids: "Until we say so, nothing will move," he means that the Illuminatti's not going to be doing anything until Trump leaves office so they'll be back.

>It is love, that is the root of all evil

The Illuminatti hates love because they are satanic.

I think the song is much better on a second listen without seeing the music video

He's just a bit of an asshole.

I mean even if you like him, you have to admit that.

You can't say "I like how he speaks his mind and isn't afraid to say what he thinks regardless of what others might say" and then wonder why people might backlash against that sort of behaviour.

If people didn't it wouldn't be a laudable quality you'd even notice or want in the first place.
