Show me a recent, commercially successful rap album that doesn't revolve around any of the following:
>Look at the money I make
>Look at the bitches I fuck
>Fuck white people

>Commercially successful
>Listen to deep, introspective rap album
>Suddenly a guest rapper comes on
>The entire tone and subject matter of the song is dropped for a brag verse
FUCKING SHITS

I could talk about how the vast majority of popular, modern rap albums (outside of trap or maybe some pop rap) don't really "revolve" around that type of content, but instead, I visited this website
http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100
and clicked on the sample snippet for every single song which isn't by or featuring a hip hop/r&b artist
Every single song fell into two categories
>Trite sex/love related bullshit. A male or female artist talking about a past relationship or a person they would like to be in a relationship with at some point in the future
>General party music, put your hands up and dance type stuff
At most, there are maybe a small handful of exceptions which I missed. The fact of the matter is that 99% of popular music falls back on the same tired lyrical tropes which countless other artists have already used. Why aren't you complaining about that? Also, pic related, there is your example. It came out about a month ago and was the third biggest release of 2016 in terms of first weeks sales. The main concept is about Cole telling a man's life story to his daughter after he was murdered. Happy?

It was objectively so, and you didn't even state your standards for commercial success so suck my ass.

>Happy?
He won't be, people who critique entire genres like this are almost always doing so with a very limited understanding and a very limited desire to think past stereotypes

That's one smug frog

Most people don't care about lyrics, simple. Melody immediately resonates with people far more and is therefore all that ultimately matters in music.
John Lennon made a point of this when he wrote I am the Walrus, purposely meaningless lyrics yet is considered a Beatles classic.
MF Doom Mmm Food or Madvillainy if you want to pleb it up.

OP just got BTFO'd.

Yeah, but no one is retarded enough to consider top 40 pop as an artistic effort
Rap fans are deluded

Jonwayne's The Come Up was the first time I saw this and it made me so fucking mad. Just this Hagrid looking motherfucker rapping about his weight, how he was made fun of in school and told he would be nothing, and overall just trying to be better.
Then Scoop DeVille comes up like "BITCHES BITCHES MONEY MONEY HAHAHA"
Fuck that
