Any songwriters here?
How do you write music?
What's your method?
**this is not /comp/ or /prod/, I'm just asking about amateur songwriters**

I'll either jam until I come up with a tasty lick or I'll just let a melody pop into my head during the day and try to get it out. After I have a foundation everything just kind of comes to me. Also I have a bass player that I write with, so that helps.
Play power chords until I find something that sounds like a good riff
Talk to my drummer about what tempo I want to play it at and they make a drum beat and I say yes or no
Talk to bassist and they either play my root notes or do something different i don't know
Talk to keyboardist and say you're smart enough to know what'll sound good and if it doesn't repeat this process
I typically start with the title. A good title can world-build the rest of the track (even things like genre or aesthetic). I know this will seem like a shitposty response, but honestly, the title is where most of my work goes when I'm writing for myself or writing songs to sell

This is actually retarded
But if you start with lyrics it can, emphasis on can, work

wow that's really weird, but I guess if you're a stock music composer or something that works

I write almost exclusively pop music. If you look at any successful pop song (either now or in the past), the title of it is usually very memorable and alludes to the themes and lyrics of the song.
That's why I start with the title first. If I have a strong title, then the hook and the verses come pretty easily afterward.
(I usually go: Title --> Hook --> Verses --> Other Sections like Bridges or Pre-Choruses)
what do you do when you have writers block?

Extended breaks are usually the way to go. I write in big batches so it'll be like writing 8 songs one week and then following two weeks write one or two and the another big wave comes.
It's good to have a schedule and be detailed, but this is art and there is a sense of just "letting it happen" naturally that needs to occur too.
music theory day and night.
