I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
>>70379955
A lot of "music" movies are less about music than they are about art in general. Whiplash is another great example. Frank is as close to a strictly-music movie as one of these can get, and so I give it my personal seal of approval.
Also, if you are indeed the same poster, then what was the actual "joke"?
>>70380135
the one about the national

>>70380135
The Souvlaki pitchfork classic is bretty gud.
>>70379708
Seconding Love & Mercy, Brian Wilson is such an important figure in pop music that it'd be remiss not to watch this film.
Even ignoring the music angle it's one of the Coen's best films, and of course Oscar's performances are great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M8m4LyFSkE
This might get some flack, but I honestly think that rendition eclipses Van Ronk's.
>>70380135
all 11 hours of The Beatles Anthology
I'm not even being ironic.
>>70380563
Seconding this one, great movie

>>70379625
One of my favorite movies ever
>>70380563
This is quite amazing in every respect love this film
Interstella 5555. It has anime and daft punk.
Dig!
>>70380135
Beware of Mr. Baker is pretty good.
vals im bashir.
it's not exactly a music movie, but it's got some beautiful sequences that I think would resonate with musicians.
How has no one said Saturday Night Fever yet?
>>70379595
Purple Rain.
Mistaken for Strangers
its all gone pete tong
>>70382308
i love nashville
best soap on air
>>70379625
Fuck am I the only person on Earth that fucking hated this movie? All the characters were super fucking unlikeable, it wasn't well written, and the music in the movie(what the film is all about) is impossible to listen to as well. This movie is utter garbage.

Standing In The Shadows Of Motown

>I frequent /tv/
Pic related
On topic though, I really liked Control even though for some reason a lot of people didn't.
>>70383936
The answer to this is always "no"
Have you heard of La La Land, OP?
Just watched whiplash and thought it was great
Saturday Night Fever
Grease
Grease 2
Everything about being in a band, history and nature of rock (till the 80's), touring, management, fame and having your gf in your band.
>>70380994
this happens in every movie thread - for some reason /mu/ doesn't get /mu/-the-(fucking)-movie
>>70383923
by no means a great movie, but if you can't get into the bands music you're a massive pleb. it's literally just krauty jams with moogs. have you ever gone outside of the /mu/essentials chart anon? be honest.
Fish story
Until The Light Takes Us
>>70379595
>inb4 la la land
although it was fine, it gives up being a musical half way through the movie. its not bad but i dont like how they call it a musical
>>70379708
classic choice
Inside Llewyn Davis
>>70381991
adventureland is post-grad angst garbage
>>70385127
Except it was actually bad. Emma and Goose can't sing outside an octave, the second act drags on for way too long, and the songs are all bland and forgettable.
The only impressive thing about the entire flick is that goose played all the piano parts himself, and the only reason it's getting praised and getting awards is cause "muh old hollywood" ass kissing.
does slc punk count as music movie?
>>70385210
That movie fucking blows
>>70385210
>>70385262
I love SLC Punk because it's one of the most honest depictions of punk I've ever seen.
The whole message is you can't be an edgelord your entire fucking life and you eventually have to grow up and stop being a faggot.
>>70380135
Searching for Sugar Man
Buena Vista Social Club
Mistaken for Strangers
I am trying to break your heart
Supersonic
Shut up and play the hits, though not really sure if that's considered a documentary
>>70385350
then you can get a job at some big corporation and work your way to become a rich edgelord. that's what finance movies taught me
Stop Making Sense.
>>70379922
pretty great. this thread passed it by
>>70380135
Muscle Shoals is an essential doc
>>70385014
Literally the greatest music film ever made.
>You know, just simple lines intertwining, you know, very much like, I'm really influenced by Mozart and Bach, and it's sort of in between those, really. It's like a Mach piece, really. It's sort of...
>What do you call this?
>Well, this piece is called "Lick My Love Pump".
>>70379603
Legit good movie. Got me super excited about music as a kid.
>>70379708
I wish the whole movie was Paul Dano. John Q-sack was so shitty in his scenes. Paul Giamatti was the best part of those scenes due to his big cliche villain role that was hilariously executed
>>70385638
I'm glad Spinal Tap exists because it's one of the few comedies that lives up to the hype
The scene with the miniature stonehenge props and the midgets had me crying the first time I saw it
>>70383923
I hated it too...
>>70386017
kek, yeah, and the fucking pod not opening too. It's insanely re-watchable too for an 80s comedy
>>70386084
>>70386017
Spinal Tap characters feel real, even with self-combusting drummers, that's what it's real power is. I laugh hardest at the small quips like "It wasn't a glove, believe me" and the idea of a "ten minute jazz odyssey" played on a rock gig that you aren't even headlining anymore :D
>>70384291
As a film, it's great. As an accurate representation of jazz culture, it's not. The Charlie Parker story was overexaggerated to the point of being untrue, and who the hell even thinks about going to school for jazz if they can't even play a ride correctly? There are countless tutorials on youtube. Then again, protag was probably a spoiled little bitch lol
>>70380135
shut up and play the hits
>>70379595
berlesque
>>70379780
>>70379662
>>70381746
added to watchlist
>>70383686
purple rain is a really shit movie, if not for the music it'd be a 3/10 at best
There's a documentary about The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols that I forget the name of but it was pretty good
>>70389280
Dig! And yeah, it's pretty good
>>70379595
High school musical is my fav
Cabaret, My Fair Lady, RockyHorror picture show.
