idk questions of the day:
what instrument/sound do you (typically) start with?
fast tempo you've used? also best 'odd meter' if you're in to that shit?
what does your dad think of your music?
>>70290756
>what instrument/sound do you (typically) start with?
drums 90% of the time
>fast tempo you've used? also best 'odd meter' if you're in to that shit?
999bpm pretty sure, also 15/16 is my jam
>what does your dad think of your music?
used to have a CD of my older stuff in his car, and usually tells me he thinks it's interesting, but he's probably just being nice.

All of it, including synths and loops, were recorded live on a Yeti Blue mic and worked on later. As for what instruments and shit I used, I frankly recorded this album so long ago I don't remember anymore. It's been a while. I know for II it was just my guitar and for some of these I was using a yamaha keyboard.
I'm really low-tech.
Software used to mix and master is adobe audition, tho.

>What instrument do you start with?
Usually I start with just lyrics and then create a chord progression that fits the mood of them on guitar or piano.
>Fastest tempo,
Idk my drummer plays pretty fast on one of our songs but that on is pretty shoegazey so I strum fairly slowly.
>Odd time sigs
One of our songs goes from 4/4 into 3/4 into 5/4. Also 7/8 is fun.

I think he doesn't like it but I can't blame him, he listens to dadcore shit like Foo fighters.

>progressive neo-psych mathy glitchy ambient chamber dream pop
>ffo björk, radiohead, sufjan, dirty projectors, anco and its side projects
to answer OP's questions:
1: piano or guitar figures or a looped sample
2: only one track on this album has 4/4 on it. first track has 36/8 subdivided 7,7,5,7,7,3, second track has 11/8 followed by 13/8 then 9/8.. etc..
3: my dad loves it although it took a while to get used to the glitch elements

Help.
My dad and my mom both like my music a lot, it's not that difficult.
>>70291787
Which one are you? I relate hard to this. The only one that knows I make music is my brother, because I've shown him like song or two, but only songs that don't have any upfront singing, because that's the part of my music that I still get the most self conscious about.
>>70291818
I never post any of my shit anywhere, especially on here, I just lurk. Too scared of what others would say. Worst fear is being that one post that gets ignored throughout the whole thread. No recs, no criticism, no replies, no nothing.

>>70290756
guitar and drums around the same time, though I usually try to come up with interesting sounds on the guitar before I go jam with my drummer buddy
I love playing in odd meters but I don't necessarily count mine out, it kind of just happens that way
my dad has never heard any of my polished stuff, just my jamming here and there
>>70291969
pretty good bedroom stuff, would like to hear what you could do with a higher budget and with more instrumentation
>>70291930
I really like this, I feel like the field recordings in the background provide a really nice atmosphere, makes me feel like I'm right there while you play
>>70291710
I really like it, though one thing that really irks me is just how drenched in reverb it is. that kind of takes away the "dreamy" feel and gives it a muddy sound
also if anyone gives enough of a shit to check out one of the full sessions I recorded with my buddy, it's mostly unedited and bit rough around the edges though I think it's got some cool parts

My favorite track is outcomes. Nice moods in your stuff.
where else can I post to get meaningful feedback?
I've been posting for upwards of a month now and I am almost always completely ignored
it's fucking annoying and discouraging to type a well thought out post, give others actual feedback and then be skipped over while the fuckers who literally copy paste their exact post from the last thread get 6 replies
thought I can't complain really as they aren't getting any feedback either, it's just the same 6 people telling others that they recommend it for the billionth time
seriously, this shit makes me not want to post here but I've not found a better place to put my music up and have the potential of getting feedback

We were kind of sitting on the ideas for this album for a few months but didn't have immediate plans to record it until the drummer from The Flaming Lips approached us asking if he could hop on the record. There's no feedback because these threads last a couple hours then die. A more traditional forum lends itself to more thought out posting and less poop n scoot posting
>>70294687
so is there any forums that have active communities that are more suited to this type of thing?
>>70294687
I give a lots of feedback, but that usually happens in the period when the thread is already stagnant and no one wants to even reply to my feedback, so the thread could die. Absolutely disgusting.
Pretty sure 80% of the new artist I gave feedback to haven't read my posts.
>>70295227
I'm the one bitching about this, I have received feedback from you and I often try to respond, but one person alone giving feedback is really not really enough to encourage consistent posting and consistent feedback, I just find it very irritating to have written out a lengthy post giving multiple people genuine feedback and be completely ignored
that's why I'm asking if there is any other websites where I can promote my music and give other small artists feedback
>>70295301

I know reddit's songwriting sub is pretty active, and you have to contribute before you can submit your own work
>>70293114
I've always kind of not wanted feedback in Bandcamp threads. SoundCloud threads are for works in progress and figuring shit out, Bandcamp I use for completed work. I'm not usually looking for notes, I'm looking for people to check it they like it and find shit I like. Typically if I don't like something I feel rude saying that because unless they asked for feedback then it's their finished product and it's not really the place to say "fix this" or something. I give either positive feedback or simply recs here for that reason. If you want feedback I'd ask for it in SoundCloud threads or be specific about what kind of response you want here.
