most mutants have started to stray away from critics. I find it weird how music is still "critiqued" and the only successful sites/personas are ones with good personalities (Anthony) and/or successful on the business side of it (p4k for doing interviews, click bait journalism, and staying somewhat consistent with actual reviews)

I dig currents sometimes but simply havent gotten into their other stuff. I appreciate the whole theme going in currents. Basically vaporwave done seriously by an actual band doing it their own way.
Their other stuff doesnt ring the bell for me.

It isnt. But around the time of release, vaporwave was at it's highest popularity. Currents was the closets we would get to vaporwave with a successful band.
It had that aesthetic thing going with every instrument, filter, and sample used.

A good part of /mu/ loved Lonerism when it came out. The it became popular etc but Lonerism is that kind of album which is amazing for a week or two then you forget about it.

All instruments, such as the keyboards and the synths doing arpeggios, all emulate 80's 90's origin, or at least from the new wave genre
Vocal filters on some songs are completely calling back to that such genre
Samples such as the past lover thing are vaporwave as hell
Easier heard than said. try listening to it again with vaporwave in mind. I know it's supposed to emulate 70/80s dance and new wave but upon it's release it was pretty much supported by the popularity of vaporwave
