I just got this.
What's the best program to produce music with my guitar and also use effects?
>>
Your mobo's DAC isn't near good enough for those to be useful, and a good one would have the 1/4" jack to begin with. Congrats, OP, you wasted three bucks.

So... What's the best program?
>>
>>70232482
Ardour. Or Ableton if you use fucking Windows. I bet you do. Ha.
>>

YOUR ALL SET BRO
>>

make sure to plug it into the microphone input (red). Turn the volume knob on the guitar to 10 to get the best signal
>>
do you have like, an audio interface? or something to plug the guitar into? You can't just slap that thing on the end of a cable and plug it into the computer, its not a midi
>>
>>70233356
You actually can send the analog signal created in by your guitar's pickups into your motherboard's sound card and amplify it digitally. It will sound terrible, but you can do it.
>>
>>70233424
Surely it'd be better to run it through your amp and then just line-in the aux output from the amp...
>>
>>70233356
>its not a midi
you can use midi but make sure it's mono
>>
>>70233443
Of course, but guitar amps have the aux mostly as a cosmetic feature and it will also sound terrible.
>>
>>70233460
well that part should be obvious, since stereo midi (esp. from a guitar) will fry your onboard ssl compressor immediately
>>
>>70233481
Is the only way to record a guitar with a microphone?

This is my shitty setup, OP. And I use Ableton, though I've been told Cubase is better for instruments. I don't know shit, I've only been doing this about 6 months to passable results
>>
>>70233560
>using an onboard ssl compressor an anything but EDM kicks
>>
>>70233581
Or use a proper DAC or better yet a specialized interface.
>>
>>70233660
Wow this seems shitty. Good thing I don't play guitar...though I guess most things sound better with some sort of interface versus just lining it in...

Also if you're going to use Ableton or I imagine any other music program make sure you have a decent pc, because Ableton at least destroys my RAM, even with my decent computer. And save your work often. Often.
>>
>>70233705
Most soundcards don't have a dedicated line in, just a mic input so D.I.ing in a high gain instrument like a guitar or a line level instrument is just a bad idea.
>>
>>70232377
CRIIIIIINGE! STOP! Just get a fucking audio interface!
