ITT: Theory. No matter what you rated an album, even if you gave it a 1/10, if you kept playing it over and over, you'd eventually like it, purely from familiarity.

I didn't hate Loveless until I listened to it a second time.

As a 9 year old boy in the 90s that britney spears song Lucky always made me feel sad

I doubt it, though I would probably hate it less.
>>
We should get an experiment going. Choose an album you hate, listen to it incessantly, report back in a week with results.
>>

I think it takes more time than that. I've noticed that with overplayed pop, I tend to hate it when it comes out, but when I hear it like 4-5 years later I get nostalgic and want to sing along.
>>
sometimes true but that's probably just you finding the quality in an album where it's scarce and takes time to hear
>>
That's honestly what happened to me with TMR. On my first listen I thought it was """avant garde""" garbage but by my fifth listen I was singing along somewhat ironically and now after dozens of listens I love the album.
>>
The idea of "underrated" doesn't exist in music (and all art).
No album can truly be amazing or 10/10 without recognition.

It happened to me with Loveless. I was like 14 and liked pretty tame alt and indie rock and was ignorant of shoegaze so I didn't get why the vocals were mixed so low and stuff and thought it was badly mixed. I listened a few more times because everyone loved it so much and it finally clicked.
God I was such a turbopleb before that.
>>
>>70140507
It's a 5/10 song. I always felt that way about it. Mediocre, nothing more, nothing less.
>>
>>70142127
I've heard loveless so many times and still feel like its kinda dull compared to other shoegaze albums.
>>
>>70142003
Something can be underrated and highly recognized at the same time. I say Kenny G is underrated because people underestimate his ability to rip on the sax.

>No album can truly be amazing or 10/10 without recognition.
absolutely ridiculous, naive statement that shows a complete failure to grasp basic human psychology

without the backing of the tastemakers plenty of albums you consider great would never see the light of day

it is literally 100% likely that there are many great albums out there that you will never hear because the artist responsible lacks the connections and marketing skill needed to get their work heard
>>
>>70140507
I've been trying to do this with Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven. No luck so far
>>
>>70140507
Then why do I grow to dislike albums that I used to like?
>>
>>70142456
because there is a saturation point

op should have also added that you will eventually disike any album given enough familiarity, and this one is definitely true. there is no album you could play on a constant loop without getting sick of it.
>>
>>70142436
I feel like that album just has no memorable moments at all. It just kinda loops different boring unmemorable guitar things for 2-3 minutes at a time. I only listened to it once but honestly the only moments I remember are the terrible Beavis and Butthead sketches.

There are certain albums I never get sick of. You don't even want to know how many times I've listened to Run For Cover, The Sweetest Illusion, and Copernicus.
