How is it autistic in any way? Lots of music fans went out on that day and took a stand against the most cancerous music trend of the time and sent a message.

>>70119925

It'll never happen again. Hip-hop and electronic bullshit are pretty much all of modern, well-known popular music. The art of popular music died decades ago.

/pol/ autists don't like freedom, homosexuality or dancing

The anti disco reaction was led largely by homophobic men who were afraid that gay culture was starting to get more radio-play and their shitty stadium rock music wasn't interesting to girls and people with taste anymore
>>
>>70120459
there are no essential albums, like other dance music (see: house, techno, funk, soul, etc.) because it is a genre based around singles and is inherently pleb.
>>
>>70119824
No, this was:

>“We are officially changing our name from Andrew Jackson Jihad to the simple, familiar abbreviation that most of you already call us: AJJ.”
>“1.) We are not Muslims, and as such, it is disrespectful and irresponsible for us to use the word jihad in our band’s name. 2.) We no longer wish to be a living reminder of president Andrew Jackson. Interesting historical figure as he was, he was an odious person and our fascination with him has grown stale.”
>>
>>70120459

>Giorgio

Nothing else.
>>
The disco sucks movement is definitely up there.

I know it's pretty dumb but I still think that the hair metal, grunge, and nu-metal scenes were all pretty shit eras of music. If you can call them that.

A big folly that particularly irks me was the commercialization of emo music. I guess you could say that it was inevitable, but it always seemed like an un-marketable genre. But somehow untalented bands were able to successfully co-opt an aggressive and punk derived musical genre and boil it down to it's most sellable aspects. Thus birthing the constant misunderstanding of non-music fans who can't tell the difference between separate extreme music genres, simply calling anything slightly heavy or any music with screaming "screamo." You can bet it bothers me, even though it really shouldn't...
>>
>>70120489
>because it is a genre based around singles and is inherently pleb.
not true, plenty of good dance albums and even great conceptual dance records
stop spreading ignorance desu
>>
>>70120484
My favorite part is that rockists were so out of touch that they accused disco of being an escape from sociopolitical strife without realizing the type of people who most gravitated towards the disco culture were in desperate need of that escape because they lived strife.

>n-not liking disco is homophobic!!!!! :^(
Buttangery disco fans have been using this argument for nearly 40 years now. It's total fucking bullshit.

Ya wanna know why people didn't like disco? It's because other than a tiny handful of acts, it was garbage.

Synthpop (which is basically disco mixed with post-punk and occasionally a touch of industrial) had a huge gay audience, and unlike disco, actually wasn't total shit and produced quite a few acts that are still respected to this day.
>>
>>70121960
so you're saying the blacks are the problem
>>
>>70121960
You can dislike disco without hating gay people but a lot of people in the Disco Demolition Night were just mad because their "cool" rock music was being replaced by flamboyant dance music.
>>
>>70121960
I mean the same can be said for jangle pop or twee and shit but i still think disco was incredibly influential more so for producers than people with instruments and in groups. The whole druggy club music brought a lot of attention to bright guitar tones and string sections, and just meticulous panning of many tracks for the sake of sounding like ecstasy or we

I kek at every music historian trying to make some grand narrative about the disco demolition. The idea it was driven by homophobia or racism is convenient, but ignores the blunt facts: Chicago radio stations were switching to disco in droves, and ppl were pissed.

The move was seen as corrupt and a betrayal of their fan base. Radio was extremely powerful back then, and DJs were getting huge kickbacks from music execs to play more disco. (It was more a more lucrative market - single-based, newer, fresher... by contrast, you can only make so much $ pushing the same Rolling Stones album for 10 years)

Music fans were annoyed the same way we get annoyed today when new Rebecca black meme-pop gets shoved down our throats. Again, radio was ubiquitous then. The same singles were getting played on every station. People were SICK of it.

I have no doubt there were some racist slimey fucks who saw the demolition as a convenient way to gaybash. But no, that isn't what filled up comiskey park that night. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just trying to retroactively make history fit their agenda.

Source: From Chicago. Parents were at the disco demolition. Also happen to be bi-fag who enjoys both dad rock and disco.
>>
>>70119824

>The move was seen as corrupt and a betrayal of their fan base. Radio was extremely powerful back then, and DJs were getting huge kickbacks from music execs to play more disco. (It was more a more lucrative market - single-based, newer, fresher... by contrast, you can only make so much $ pushing the same Rolling Stones album for 10 years)

You forget the most important part: Rock in the late 70s had forgotten how to do radio-friendly singles. Everything had turned into AOR metal/prog that was not radio friendly nor danceable.
>>
Record companies, run by the stupidest people on the planet, were rushing to sign as many disco acts as they could in the aftermath of Saturday Night Fever while completely failing to grasp that it was a fad that would soon go away. The rock world at that time admittedly was stale and filled with tired, past-it dinosaurs like the Rolling Stones and non-radio friendly songs.
>>
Disco Demolition Night had several huge long-term repercussions, including the virtual banning of any group associated with disco from the airwaves, which of course included the Bee Gees, even though their primary sound consisted of gushy love ballads. It also resulted in a backlash against black music that lasted for years, aside from Michael Jackson and Prince, black artists were almost totally confined to black radio until Aerosmith collab-ed with Run DMC. Rick James's banning from MTV is possibly the most famous example.

Luckily as well, a new crop of bands that came along at the end of the 70s like Van Halen and AC/DC revitalized rock and ousted the dinosaur groups like the Stones. The early 80s was a renaissance for rock, with the concurrent NWOBM, punk, and New Wave movements.

>COMPUTER MIND is an exciting musical collective that aims to change everybody's perspective on autism with their Progressive Rock/Metal opera “THE ASPIE PROJECT” and give people with a disorder just that little boost of confidence that they can reach everything. This is not just an album, made by just a band. The creator (writer, composer and bassist) of this project, Mike van den Heuvel, has an autism spectrum disorder himself; Asperger’s Syndrome. He has managed to learn himself how to deal with it. His passion for music mainly helped him to deal with his problems. Because of his great developments, and his passionate love for music, he wanted to create an album in which he could show the world how he managed to turn his problems into gifts.

Dancing, Thinking, and Enjoyment are not mutually exclusive at all. It's a false dichotomy created to justify your edgy hatred for popular music.
Furthermore, arguing for "the point" of something is tremendously difficult. Implies that a listener can in any way understand an author's full intentions, as well as assume that such intentions were fully conscious.

Any time you've ever heard a curmudgeony old baby boomer go "rap is crap", ask yourself if he ever took an active interest in soul and funk in his youthful days. He probably did not.

Christgau had said that when he first started in the late 60s, most rock journalists had no interest in black artists unless they were bluesmen or Chuck Berry.

>>
>>70137691
>>70137652
The race divide in music was a very real thing back then and the backlash against disco sure as hell did have racial undertones, it's what led to most black artists being extirpated from white radio during the early 80s. When Aerosmith did the collab with Run DMC, white trash rock fans called them race traitors, mostly because they were too dumb to know that rock came from the blues, a black music style.
