Ive been trying to get into jazz fusion for quite some time, and yes I enjoy it, in fact I was introduced to the mahavishnu orchestra awhile back by my dad and they were one of my favorite acts for quite sometime. However they never reached that level of being "fucking incredible" for me, but now I really wish they would. Where do I start from a more rockist perspective? I think half the fun of jazz fusion is the talent and improvisation, and that's not really looked at as a part of rock, but i guess entry level would be fine too. Where do i go?

I own one of these and don't even play anything remotely close to prog.

I run the clean signal through my amp and the effect signal through another speaker with a ton of reverb/delay. It's probably the most important guitar pedal of the last 2-5 years. It has changed my life. Even my gf gets wet listening to me play now.

I've never understood where this "ELP killed prog" meme came from. The causality of it makes no sense. Did people listen to Brain Salad Surgery and then decide "wow, this is too much, I'm giving up all prog now"? I find that unlikely. Prog was never going to be in the limelight forever; it was a niche genre, so of course it had to lose preeminence after awhile. No one decided to give up on Camel and Genesis et al. because of ELP's showmanship.
