Yes hello I am looking for people's opinions on who the best acoustic guitar playing artists are. I realize there are probably a lot but post your favorites please. I'm trying to be the next Joni Mitchell and I need inspiration + talent. Pic unrelated
Oh and all genres are welcome

Listen to a lot of early Bob Dylan, especially the first two albums: Dylan and The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

The unequivocal "best" acoustic guitarists will be classical guitarists.
From a pure technique and knowledge of the instrument stand point they're unmatched.
Listen to some of David Russell's interpretations of pieces, such as:

Here's some contemporary(last 100 years) classical guitar music

Another couple guys to look for would be Gary Ryan, who has some really awesome modern classical guitar compositions, and Carlo Domeniconi, search "Koyunbaba".
Tommy Emmanuel is the best acoustic guitar player I've heard. It sounds like you want singer-songwriter/folk.
> Dylan
> Cohen
> Jason Molina
> the Avett brothers
Those are my favorites. Also check out old country artists.

Tommy is amazing, but too often can be tasteless and flashy just because he can.
Always like Chet's solo playing - simple and clean.

Tommy was already mentioned because he has some crazy technique and skill.
His songs aren't my thing much in terms of listening to but if you just want to watch someone pull crazy stuff he is good.
Solo artist wise I love Estas Tonne

Another one I like but probably isn't as crazy in terms of techniqe is Bert Jansch.

His songs are actually playable though so thats a plus.
