And thanks btw, tried to come up with something to hopefully show all the different noises that thing can make including strumming

lol its alright m8. it was literally just supposed to show the angle i was advising him to look at the guitar from. usually when i say to ppl 'look down the fretboard' they look down the top, but to see the neck relief you need to look down the side like the pic shows
>>
>>69866287
>but to see the neck relief you need to look down the side like the pic shows
No, you really don't.
>>
>>69866306

It's better not to try to eyeball it at all. Place capo on first fret, hold down last fret, see how much space is between string and top of 12th. That's much more accurate. You don't even need the proper measuring thing, just see how much space is there by pressing it up and down. Ideally it should be roughly the thickness of a business card.

Is it short scale? 30" and a Fuzz are amazing, a SS 300w+ amp is a bonus too. I use my Squier Bronco and a Daredevil LSD and it's gnarly.
>>
Anyone have any experience with the AC4? I'm looking for an apartment friendly tube amp
>>
>>69869612
nah, its 34". can you rec me a similar looking affordable bass with a shorter scale? i love the look of the o bass. i can see why a shorter scale would be advantageous for the fuzzed up toanz. did you check the video i posted? is 30" scale good for that sound too?
>>
How skilled are you supposed to usually be, after ~2 years of practice?
>>
>>69869694
you should know full scale patterns up and down the neck and how to use them for improvisation and which chords fit with them. most of all though, you should just be happy with your ability to play what you want.

For the Linked vid you're gunna want a P-Bass configuration, the new Fender Mustang PJ Bass should do you well. If you want some color you an make it into a project since polyurethane finishes are easy to refinish
>>
>>69869583
If you want to do DFA1979 stuff, you want a distortion, not a fuzz. I use the Fuzzrocious Cat Tail to good effect, but really any distortion should be ok. You won't get the exact sound unless you cop a vintage Peavey Super Festival 800-B, AKA not gonna happen.
>>69869612
Love that pink EB3.
>>69869671
Short scale is best for ripping DFA1979 stuff and is what Jesse uses now (a vintage Dan Armstrong lucite bass), but a good short scale will set you back a fair amount of money ($500+). You can get a shitty Squier Bronco for $150 new, half that used, that should be ok for just fucking around. Epiphone makes an EB0 and an EB3 that are pretty affordable, but I think they suck.

You can do just as well on a regular long scale if you practice. Jesse used to use a Rick, after all.

I do DFA covers on YouTube and I do fine with a 34" scale w/ two octave range.

Son of a Gun. Literally G5 power chord, then C5. (3rd fret 6th string, 5th fret 5th string.. then 3rd fret 5th, 5th fret 4th). Pennyroyal tea, about a girl, lithium (first song i learned), polly... they're all gravy. Nirvana is like guitar preschool.

played it at GC for a bit on a day that wasn't busy. and i hated it
sure it was a tube amp, but it sounded thin and it was really distorting at about 5.
i tried it with humbuckers and the sound was muddy and boomy, and thin.
i tried it with singles and the sound was dull and tasteless, and thin.
personally, i despised it. not my cup of tea.

as for apartment friendly, yes but barely. when i lived in an apartment for a while, i had my 5w fender vibrochamp xd with me. i couldn't go past 3 because it was too loud. if it's louder than tv volume, it's too loud. either look for 1 watt tubes or stick with small solid state amps.

Ahh, my bad. 15 inch bass amp prob bother half the building. I had a zoom707II like 10 years ago i used with headphones when i lived in an apartment. you see if I did that (and I would actually just get the $25 clone from behringer) there's only one tone I would ever use it for, which is a problem because I want a pedal that I can get a couple different tones out of.

yes and no
no because then you could always swap speaker cabinets to your liking and whatnot

yes because it's small and to me it's pointless to get small stacks like that, might as well make it a combo
>>
twas the night before christmas, and all through the chan
not an amp was buzzing, all guitars are on stands
the guitars were all strung and tuned up with care
in the hopes that warm tones would soon be there

the pedals were nestled tightly on the board
with visions of licks and jazzy blue chords
crazyaga is posting, and I try to ignore
while looking for progressions, I haven't heard before

when out on the board there arose such a post
i gazed up from my shoes, with a glimmer of hope
away to the basement, I ran in a flash
to play my guitar, slung real low, just like slash

the sticky I ignored, I pretend like I know
I should probably just lurk, or maybe just go
when wat to my wondering ears should appear
arpegios so sweet, and all the notes I want to hear

with a little old amp, and a really thick pick
came new riffs that I knew were so sick
more rapid than metal, the notes they all came
I knew all the chords, and I called them by name

now f sharp, now b, now a minor and g
on d9 on a7, on b flat and c
from the top of the neck, to where pentatonics do fall
we're all going to make it, merry christmas to all
>>
>>69867621
Some theory. Just start messing around with basic chord progressions. I IV V and II V I are the most common, play around with them, try modulation. Descending and ascending chords, you know just simple stuff

tube screamer is a distortion pedal, silly goose. the difference the amount of volume presented. the TS will get you a distorted sound at a lower level like any other distortion pedal. the thing of it is, distortion pedals give off some of their own "colour" to your tone.

I asked in a previous thread but never got an answer. How are those Japanese Gibson ripoffs from the 70's? I want a Les Paul but I don't really want an Epiphone and Gibsons are way too expensive for me.
>>
>>69874816
Play it first. Some are excellent, some are 1:1 scale replicas, some are garbage. If you buy one without touching it make sure you pay less than the going rate so you wont lose money if you need to sell it.
>>
I'm teaching myself fingerstyle right now (mainly travis picking stuff) and I'm wondering, when you pluck the string, should you do it more with the pad of your finger, or the very tip?

I'm not using nails btw.
>>
>>69875131
just to add, I'd appreciate any tips in general regarding fingerstyle playing.
>>
>>69875047
>Play it first
Welp. There goes that option. One music shop that doesn't stock used stuff and a shitty pawn shop that won't let you play guitars before buying them. Also they want retail for used guitars.
>>
>>69875251
I mean, if you find one for a good price from a reputable seller then go for it. Like, if you find one for the price of a new epiphone thats one thing, if you get a lemon you can still probably sell it for around what you paid, but i wouldnt spend $800 on a gamble. Use the internet, too. Some of those knockoffs are pretty well documented, and you can find forum posts from over a decade ago about certain brands. Some even have fan sites. Ebay turns up a lot of hits off "lawsuit guitar", some as low as $250. If youre trying to save a buck start there, youll just have to do some footwork.

Is the current design of the guitar really as good as it gets? Those bridges, those tuning pegs, that wood etc? Has anybody ever tried to improve upon the design in any significant way?
>>
>>69876384
There's a lot of things that can be improved and are improved with luthiers and smaller manufacturers.
For instance, the body can be twice as thin without any consequence (The Ibanez S series does that)
There's a few ergonomic options that can be done too, like a slight fan, or an asymetrical neck profile (I haven't tried it so I can't tell if it's that good, but it seems nice in theory)

in other words : no, it can get better, but then it won't look like a "classic guitar" and people won't buy it.
>>
>>69876384
There may be improvements possible, but right now its really easy to either be really traditional or really gimmicky. The most recent developments i can think of are fanned frets/multi scale guitars and automatic tuning. Both of those arent necessarily an advancement, but its just something different. i have no use for eother personally.

Electric guitar company is pretty cool, even though they look like ass. Metal guitars arent necessarily innovative, but theyre the first to offer nothing but metal guitars(inb4 bc rich, not that kind of metal).

Guitars are better than theyve ever been as far as playability and customization, the only draw back is mass production, shoddy quality control and all the negatives that come along woth that.

At this point is just about inproving the wheel, not reimventing it. The next steps will be with amps and effects, eventually digital will replace analog.
>>
Best bedroom amp for $200? Preferably a modeling amp for something somewhat versatile.
>>
>>69876483
>Both of those arent necessarily an advancement
fanned frets are a game changer for extended range, or weirdly tuned (thinking about new standard tuning in particular) guitars, the tension becomes right without resorting to extreme string gauges.
They're not gimmicky, they're niche, they have an actual purpose.

He looks sorta like Amy Shummer.
>>
I found a .75mm nylon pick I must have bought back when I started out
How do people play with these things ? They feel awful.
>>
Anyone get a new guitar for Christmas?

The port that you connect the amp plug to got torn out of the side of the guitar and the wire connecting the amp to the strings snapped so now only half of the guitar worked.

I got a blank body/neck for a bass guitar plus some of the basics to put it together, excited as hell

What color combination should I do for the body/pickguard? I was debating whether I wanted to do some cool colors or if I just wanted to put wood varnish to make it darker and call it a day or something
>>
>>69878721
super thin picks make zero sense to me. "they're good for jazz and shredding!"
just use your fingers for jazz and for shredding just get good with heavier picks, lightweight kiddos

I saved up and bought a Taylor 114CE

I like the cutaway for the added brightness onto the already bright sound Taylor guitars typically have, wondering if I should save up for some sort of Koa top for darker sounding stuff

I bought this for myself the other day.

Still coming in the mail. Going to put a black pickguard on it and probably throw some type of seymour duncan SC in the bridge position.

>>69878761
I bought one so I'm happy. I also bought another stand and a nice sling to go with it.

I can't play comfortably without .88's
>>

Get a cheap soldering iron and you can fix it.

The part youre talking about is the jack. You just have to reheat the lug for the broken wire and reattatch it with some fresh solder.

>>69878882
I'm messing around with it right now, for shred it's garbage, I keep "slipping" and missing notes.
>>
Has anyone ever tried this? Running your preamp through the NS2's loop?

>>
>>69878991
I tried it, didn't work very well for me with my 6505+. Sure it took out all the noise, but it seemed to be eating into the tone and gating a bit too much even with the settings pretty low
>>

I've never heard anyone say thin picks are good for jazz or shredding, it's just not true. The only merit of thin picks is they're good for strumming a bunch of chords
>>
anyone know how to get some cool vocal effects?

Post Christmas loot.

Need a delay or reverb though, I feel so naked.

Only thing different would be that the Fender logo will be black not pearloid.

Thin picks are good for acoustic strumming

>>69879131
Slash says it's easier to play fast with super thin picks, I think that's why everybody believes it
>>
>>69878761
