Metal fans are, by nature, childish and immature. They are thrown into bizarre fits of excitement when anything remotely 'good' is released and therefore overrate these albums whilst in the midst of the headbanging, hairswinging honeymoon period. /mu/'s huge metal contingent means that fairly average metal albums will always rank much higher than deserved on annual and all-time charts. The metalhead barometer for perfection isn't Pet Sounds/Abbey Road/Astral Weeks - it's Reign in Blood/Ride the Lightning/Rust in Peace. You can therefore understand how roughly a hundred new albums every year sound like stone-cold classics.

why is metal considered childish but rap and hip hop is not? All the popular rap songs are about sex bragging and addiction. that sounds like some teenage shit if i ever heard it

Indie fans are, by nature, childish and immature. They are thrown into bizarre fits of excitement when anything remotely 'good' is released and therefore overrate these albums whilst in the midst of the crying, hipswinging honeymoon period. /mu/'s huge indie contingent means that fairly average indie albums will always rank much higher than deserved on annual and all-time charts. The indie kid barometer for perfection isn't Pet Sounds/Abbey Road/Astral Weeks - it's Hospice/In the Aeroplane Over The Sea/The Microphones. You can therefore understand how roughly a hundred new albums every year sound like stone-cold classics.
