NDH (Neue Deutsche Härte) was pioneered by Die Krupps when they transitioned from EBM to industrial rock/metal in the 90s, and Rammstein refined the formula by introducing Laibach-influenced vocals. It's not necessarily metal per se but some NDH bands have distinct metal riffing and Die Krupps defined themselves as a metal band in the 90s so it gets a pass. Fundamentally it's simple industrial rock with old school EBM elements (synthrock basslines, macho vocals, martial themes and aesthetics).

It was pioneered by The Kovenant in 2000 as an attempt to create symphonic IBM, but since they were mostly influenced by gothic BM like CoF, it resulted in industrial corsetcore.

industrial metal was about mechanical riffs, riffs that locked up like a machine - it's like taking all swing and natural beat out of the mix and making the song like a machine going through motions. streetcleaner is heavy and slow, like sludge, but its fucking monolithic, the programmed atonal drums, the minimalist repetitions, the mechanical structure of the songs and riffs, even the echoed vocals are carefully programmed in time with the riffs.

they invented all the staples of what makes the genre "industrial" before it was aesthetically amalgamated with electronic and death aesthetics
