might be a wasted effort but do any of you guys listen to music while you read what do you recommend?
Obviously I'd prefer something instrumental but all are welcome
Depends on what you're reading, if you're reading some edgy existential shit then maybe Godspeed or Joy Division, if you just want a good vibe I'd stick on Portishead or Massive Attack
I'm sure not everybody is like this but it is kinda hard for me to read while listening to music. The only luck I've had is reading to something real atmospheric or doesn't require too much attention to lyrics. Of course, it definitely depends on what your reading.
fishmans - long season
nick drake - pink moon
baths - obsidian
grizzly bear - yellow house
duster - stratosphere
usually my go to's
Of course it's a wasted effort. You devalue both mediums when you do stupid tryhard shit like this.
Autechre. Don't even like it that much but elseq and exai are bare long and no vocals.
don't do that. i can barely think about anything while i pay attention to music. literature is a whole other beast.
Only very minimal ambient stuff
No vocals, period
Listen to whatever music suits the book, and suits the mood, which is usually vastly different for every book. I tend to stay away from rap though

I don't think Aphex Twin for example is a bad choice because it doesn't have extreme moments that require your attention. House music is generally repetitive

This Will Destroy You
Philip Glass
Autechre
Explosions in the Sky
Etc.
Literally just post-rock and any chill ads electronic or whatever I can get a hold of. Occasionally listen to other atmospheric stuff like Locrian but that's about it.
I can't do it
It's like watching a movie and blasting an album over top of the movie, it just makes everything muddled for me
i listen to morton feldman while i read. anything else is too distracting.
