What is the most interesting thing to come out of modern music and why is it alternative RnB?
>>69669212
alternative RnB is very boring tbch
>>69669368
I find it atmospheric as fuck.
>>69669675
most of it just apes dream pop and trip hop from 20 years ago
>>69669796
Sonically, it doesn't sound much like either, except for the emphasis on atmosphere.
>>69669827
yeah tahts why majority of them just happen to sample dream pop and trip hop right
kys
>>69669881
Name five (5) songs that do this.
>>69669827
sonically it's a mix of that with r'n'b cliches. pretty sure the weeknd has even sampled a bunch of artists from that period
the use of drums is also not dissimilar to drum machine era cocteau twins. there's a similar approach to rhythm that siouxsie and the banshees had as well

even got some post punk
>>69669989
yeah, I should have said post-punk originally, and new wave. generally british alternative music
on separate occasions he's sampled tears for fears, portishead, cocteau twins and siouxsie
I don't even have a problem with it, I just think it's weird that this is becoming such a source of inspiration for modern hip hop and r&b
>>69670047
yeah same.
i just dislike it when fans of it don't even bother getting into the music that inspires alt r&b,
Would be cool if the weeknds fanbase gave cocteau twins or portishead a chance. Could open them up to some new sounds
