>be me
>come across pic related on the internet
>never seen it on /mu/
>tagged as britpop and progressive rock on rym, 2 genres I really dislike
>let's try it anyway
>it's one of the best alternative rock album of the 90's

How come did i never see this album on /mu/ ? It's basically the "what if Muse were good ?" answer, 2 years before Muse

The only thing I vaguely remember about them is that they may have been on the Spawn movie soundtrack
>>
>>69542067
Mansun is GOAT, they are like Blur if they decided to make prog rock
>>
>>69542259
As I said, I don't like prog rock, don't like britpop, and yet this album is still fucking really good.
It's been a week it is on repeat, and it is becoming greater with every listen.
>>
>>69542067
I like this album. Good album
>>
>that Nutcracker sample

>>69542586
Do you like Cardiacs? They are kinda similar
>>
>>69542067
Why do you dislike prog and britpop?

Those are my two favorite genres
>>
I remember they used to get a bit of stick

'throwing pint glasses out of a window in Sheffield, getting himself banned along w'

Read their wiki, they come across as a dysfunctional nightmare
>>

She was told to.

I think prog is very pretentious, and pretty annoying to listen to. It seems to just always have the same structure with a lazy guitar and a lazy synth trying to create a "musical landscape" and sound profound when they don't.
I also think that prog music is very impersonal, I don't feel any emotion when listening to prog most of the time.

As for britpop, I just feel like it is bland indie rock without personality.

Not saying those are shit genres, just that I don't connect with them.
>>
>>69542834
Well I can understand that

What are your favorite genres then?

Have you checked their first album? It's more on psychedelic side
>>
>>69542834
Different anon. I used to know people into progressive rock, they were accountants. They had $30000 hi fis by naim and linn and would chat happily about aqualung and owner of a broken heart. Maybe not that much different to /bleep enthusiasts.

I think it's more about artistry than emotions.

Britpop is a lousy moniker but it was a good time to be young, lots of gigs, music telly, it felt good to be a trendy in the slug and lettuce near old street . Like we was staring in 'This Life'

The bad part is that nothing much took its place and it crawls on like a wounded animal. The 90s uk cultural boom has created the no mans land we've got today. Things like yba that were part of the 90s boom and britpop has probably genuinely killed of a lot of artists. Same with music

I like alternative / art rock / indie rock (mostly 90's indie rock band) / shoegaze / dream pop.
One of my favorite album would be Music has the right to children though.

Didn't check they first album yet, but I've heard that the Mars Volta were kinda similar to Six, and I kinda dig the Frances the Mute album, even though I didn't like their "magnum opus" that much.

>>69543116
It's funny because I really love Pavement, which make me feel the way you described britpop, even though britpop doesn't make me feel that way
>>
>>69543391
>ause I really love Pavement
It's that thing when I was in my early 20s had money, going to a big city and being with the gfs older sister and her mates to exotic restuarants and dingy pubs heaving with young profesionals. Busy night streets by the river jumping into cabs to meet people or visit a stranger in a $2k a month attic room. The world!

Could have said beck or deus or garbage or screaming trees or loads of bands around that time

Tylo is chillin
>>
>>69543116
I think that void was caused by NME overhyping every mediocre post punk revival band after 2000
>>
>>69543581
It was Elbow's fault, and Dave Grohl, you can't under estimate Dave Grohl's chilling effect over the years on music. Also a lot of it is money keeping money rich.
>>
>>69543581
I can't really blame the nme, who was there? At least they tried. Whilst they were up against free porn on the net. No chance
>>
>>69543619
>Elbow
I don't think they are really that popular even in the UK apart from 3 songs

I always loved them though, they are like more developed Coldplay/Travis
