ok, i'll bite.

how do they 'top' arbitrary years of music? what do fan theories about interlinking albums have to do with their actual merit as musicians? what does the guy who records their music mean? what does the guy who draws pictures for their songs have to do with their musical worth? how is your individual opinion on the greatest album of all time worth anything more than fuck all?

Being three years apart is not two separate decades...if you want to actually go artists that had highly rated albums in completely different decades, you'd go with people like Bob Dylan (though I personally disagree with the 90's and 00's stuff being so highly acclaimed, 1963-1976 is more than ten years apart) or Tom Waits (70's, 80's and 90's), Coil (80's, 90's and 00's). By your standards, Godspeed did the same feat and the exact same two years even.

Making a sequel to your defining work is not something good artists do. It's what washed up artists do, look at Eminem.

Using the same producer is not relevant in any way, unless you self-produce. Nor is cover art. Especially in a post-LP society.

Nobody believes them to have made the greatest album of all time. Of the decade? Sure, some naive people think that. Nobody thinks all time.
